ADMINISTRATION UPDATE
Dear CCS Friends and Families,
It is amazing to think that it is already June 1st! This time of year is always so busy for everyone - here at school and at home for our students and their families. It is one of our favorite times of year, because we are immersed in the many celebrations happening throughout the school, demonstrating the growth our students have made in all areas throughout the year! This week’s (and last week’s, because we were so busy that the newsletter didn’t get written) celebrations include:
CCS’s amazing Music program has provided our students, families and community members with three performances over the past two weeks! On May 24th, students in Grades 5 & 6 presented their Spring Concert, with performances by the 5th/6th Chorus, 5th Grade Band, 6th Grade Band and Stage Band. Music was also provided by our Ukulele Band.
On Friday, May 25th, students in grades K-4 performed several songs for a full audience as part of our Grandparents/Grandfriends Day.
This Wednesday, May 30th, our 7th and 8th graders presented their Spring Concert with performances by the 7th/8th Chorus, 7th/8th Band, Jazz Band and Concert Choir.
We are proud of all of our amazing musicians and are sending a very talented group of eighth grade musicians on to high school in the fall!
Last Friday was a very special day at CCS. On Friday morning, we welcomed many special Grandparents, Grandfriends and other family and community members here for our annual Grandparents/Grandfriends Day. Students in grades K-4 shared their classrooms with our visitors and treated them to a special musical performance. On Friday afternoon we welcomed our future 2018-2019 Kindergartners to CCS for Kindergarten Visiting Day. Our newest CCS Champs spent time in their future classrooms, took a short bus ride and enjoyed a fruit social and book selection provided by our PTO.
This week was an exciting week in PE at CCS for students in grades 3, 4 and 5. Thanks to the Kohl's Kids Bike Smart trailer which supplied 40 bikes, we were given the opportunity to not only ride, but learn some important bike safety and etiquette. Students loved this new PE experience! Other happenings included our second grade students helping CCS volunteers Deirdre Holmes and Abby Foulk plant our CCS gardens on Wednesday afternoon. Last but not least, this afternoon our 6th graders traveled to Lewis Creek to release the trout that they have raised since this winter as part of their Trout in the Classroom unit of study.
The fun and celebration will continue next week - highlights include:
Our CCS Stage Band will perform at Discover Jazz Fest on Tuesday, June 5th. They will be on the City Hall Stage at 11:30 on Church Street in Burlington.
Omega Students will host their Science Expo on Friday, June 8th from 8:10 - 10:00 a.m.
Please remember to join us for the CCS Fun Run and PTO Potluck, BBQ and Basket Raffle on Thursday, June 7th! The Fun Run starts at 5:30 p.m. with the Potluck/BBQ and Basket Raffle to follow.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Warm Regards,
Stephanie, Jen and Cassandra
