A Few Words On...
As the leader of St. Stanislaus Kostka Academy, I would just like to share a few words and thoughts on several topics and happenings in our school community.
Great Start to the New Year!
I want to thank our families for a great start to the new school year. I think that our students had fun opening up our doors with the ribbon cutting and playing in all the bubbles on Monday morning. It was awesome to see our teachers take the time to bond with their students over the course of the week and to set a strong foundation for a year full of learning. We are all excited to see what our second week brings!
New Technology Rollout
Last week, our 4th-8th grade students began using their new Chromebooks. We hope that these devices will engage students, help them develop better 21st Century skills, and enhance their overall learning. This week, our Kindergarten-3rd grade students will be receiving their iPads for classroom use. We are excited that our students will have the opportunity to engage daily on multiple different platforms that will help to increase their learning and broaden their horizons.
For our families of 4th-8th grade students, we want you to reach out to your child's classroom/homeroom teacher if either of the following apply to you:
- Your child does not have access to a computer, laptop, or tablet device at home
- You do not have reliable internet access at home
St. Stan's may be able to assist your child/family in both of these areas, but we must know of your need as soon as possible. Please be sure to review our technology acceptable use policy in our Parent-Student Handbook.
Back-to-School Forms & Parent-Student Handbook
It is very important that all families review our Parent-Student Handbook and complete our Back-to-School Forms as soon as you are able. The Handbook has important information on a variety of topics and the School Forms are necessary to have in cases of emergency. So far, only 50% of our families have completed this paperwork. If you have any questions, please contact the Main Office.
Gentle Reminders
Uniforms & Dress Code
Students more often than not adhered to the dress code during the first week of school. If your official uniforms have still not arrived from Schoolbelles, please make sure your child follows these guidelines:
- Monday & Wednesday: Plain red polo shirt and black shorts/pants/skirt
- Tuesday & Thursday: Plain red t-shirt and black athletic shorts/sweatpants
- Friday: White button-up dress shirt or blouse with black dress pants or black/blue skirt. A red, black, or blue tie for both boys and girls.
On formal uniform & Mass days (Friday), please be sure that your child is wearing a tie as a part of their uniform. Too many students came to school this past Friday without one. Boys should be wearing a red or black tie and girls (in grades 5-8) should be wearing a blue tie.
Early Dismissals / Early Pick-up
If you are needing to pick up your child before the normal school dismissal time for any reason, please be sure to notify Ms. Abby Torres in the Main Office in advance. We appreciate this courtesy because we can inform teachers ahead of time and have the child ready to go once you arrive to pick them up.
FSP Lunches
You must register your child(ren) in FSP's Boonli Payment System if you wish for them to continue receiving hot lunches. Numerous students have been getting in line to receive lunches without ever having been registered. Some of these students also have a lunch they brought from home, so please speak with your child and let them know whether they should or should not be getting a lunch from FSP.
Meet the Teacher Night
Thursday, September 1 will be our "Meet the Teacher Night" at St. Stan's Academy. This is a required meeting for all families to attend. As such, please make sure that a member of your family is able to be there for the entirety of the evening. Since this is an event for parents and guardians, we ask that only you attend. Please make arrangements for childcare in advance.
The evening will begin promptly at 6pm and end around 8pm. Families will have the opportunity to meet with their child's classroom teacher, the Principal, the school counselor/support staff, and other parents to learn about future involvement at St. Stan's. Parents will also be able to explore the Scholastic Book Fair during the evening. We very much look forward to meeting you all face-to-face!
Back-to-School Forms & Parent-Student Handbook
All families must complete the Back-to-School Forms as soon as possible. These forms have important information that the school needs in the event of an accident or emergency. Additionally, parents and students are responsible for knowing and understanding the contents of our Parent-Student Handbook. Please review this information carefully and let us know if you have an questions.
Opening Our Doors!
It was a blast welcoming our students and teachers back to St. Stan's! Several students helped us to open our doors and spread some cheer with bubbles.
First Days of School
Our teachers and students quickly got "down to business" this week with learning and relationship building activities.
FSP Lunch Orders
Food Service Professionals (FSP) will again be providing our lunches. Families will need to register through the online ordering system, Boonli. This will be where lunch menus are updated as well as a platform for you to make payments. Click here to visit the Boonli platform.
Please know that students are also allowed to bring their own lunches to school. It is important to remember, however, that we are a nut-free school and that any snacks and lunches must not contain nuts or nut products. We thank you in advance for considering the health and safety of all of our students.
Time to Get Involved! - Clubs at St. Stan's
We look forward to our students getting involved all over our school throughout the year. Sign-up for our Drama and Choir Clubs is now open. Please see the information below for more details and reach out to Kim Riley (kriley@ststanschicago.org) if you have questions about cost and payment.
