Principal's Point to Ponder

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!!!!!!!

You once had a choice
And you chose to teach
And every day
It's our children you reach

You make the difference
In the life of each child
Those that are quiet
And those that are wild

It's the way that you teach
You do it so well
They look up to you
And think you are swell

You teach from your heart
That's plain to see
They think you're divine
And we all agree

Please never forget
And remember it's true
Our children all need
Great teachers like you

ELL Strategy of the Week

Say it to, Say it like...

When encouraging ELLs to talk more often, use Say it to, Say it like strategies. These should be used often throughout lessons (every 5-10 minutes) It can be as simple as 'tell it to your elbow' or 'say it like a grandma' This strategy promotes engagement as children enjoy the funny voices. The more students speak, especially ELLs, the quicker they will learn new concepts and the English language.

Check out these Say it to, Say it like cards!

Acknowledgements

* I just want to give a big appreciative shout out to all of the teachers that have had summative evaluations already. You have ben extremely reflective on your practice, and the conversations have been very uplifting.

* Kudos to the K-2 teachers. That pep Rally was Awesome. I want to see Ron Clark have a lockdown and then a "rock star" Pep Rally in the same day. I wish the news would have come for that!!!

*Kudos to the 1st grade team for integrating read alouds about time and shapes to the students during math instruction.

*Kudos to the classes who are diligently answering the Selfie word problems. Keep it coming!!

*Shout out to Ms. Allison. Her students were supporting each other even when someone didn't do well on a passage. They were chanting to encourage those who didn't score where they should. They were also excited and clapping for each other when they did well.

*Shout to to Ms. Chastain. When I came in here students were highly engaged in a Math word problem and debating about the answer. They were giving reasons whey they chose their answer and the strategy they used to find it.

*Kudos to Ms. Chinchar and Mr. Donovan who have worked out a co-teaching plan that better meets the needs of the students in his afternoon block. Previously, Ms. Chinchar was pulling her ESL students out, but found that this was not the best use of her time and that all the students would benefit from the push-in model instead.

*Shout out to Mrs. Bailey....... Thank you for being dedicated to your speech students. It is always a pleasure to interact with your students when they are coming to you for their group session. The expressions on their faces and positive words about you shows the impact that you have on each one of their lives.
