CALVIN PARK UPDATE
Week of October 26-30, 2020
Dear Calvin Park Parents and Guardians:
We hope that our families are staying well and enjoying the fall weather. Thank you for making sure that your child is dressed for the weather as we are continuing to go outside as much as possible in all types of weather. We can help if you require assistance in providing outdoor clothing for your child. Please contact our office.
A reminder to arrange an appointment at KFLA Public Health for immunizations for your child. Students in Grade 7 need their initial immunizations and Grade 8 students will need their second immunization which was originally scheduled for last spring. Information about immunizations is included below.
We have had some inquiries about school photos and we are planning to provide individual school photos this year with Lifetouch Photography. Final details of health protocols are being worked out with the Board and the Health Unit. Families will have the opportunity to order individual packages, however, whole class photos will not be possible at this time. We are hoping to get photos completed as soon as possible so we will have more information to share very soon.
Please stay safe and take care of each other.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT IMMUNIZATIONS
This year, KFLA Public Health will not be coming in to the school for immunizations. Families need to book appointments at the Health Unit. An email was sent home outlining the new process. More information about immunizations for students who are currently in Grade 7 can be found at this link for KFLA Public Health: Elementary and Secondary School Immunizations
To book an appointment for your child to have their Grade 7 immunizations or for Grade 8 students to catch-up their immunizations that they missed due to school closure last year, please click on this link: Book an Appointment
Families can complete the online consent for immunization prior to their appointment at this link: Grade 7 Immunization Consent Form
CALVIN PARK SCHOOL COUNCIL
Co-Chairs: Claudine Elvidge, Krystle Holton
Secretary/Treasurer: Sarah Phinney
Our next virtual School Council meeting is November 2nd at 6:00 p.m. We welcome new members and will send out an email prior to our meeting with a request for interest so that we can provide a link to those who would like to attend. The two major areas of focus of our School Council for this year are parent/community engagement and supporting technology purchases for classrooms.
VIRTUAL SCHOOL UPDATE
At the elementary level, the board conducted a reorganization in September to adequately staff our in-school and virtual classrooms. Since then, we have had additional families express an interest to move their students from in-person school to the LDSB Virtual School. Currently, some students remain on a wait list for the virtual school. In other cases, families have opted to return to the classroom.
Elementary families who wish to move students from in-person to remote learning or remote learning to in-person learning, must provide notice by October 29, 2020 at 3 p.m. To do this, families must contact their student’s home school. Once numbers are known, staffing will be arranged with class start up scheduled for the week of November 9, 2020.
While efforts will be made to accommodate requests for a change, families should expect that they might need to be wait-listed if they change their minds due to capacity challenges at their current school. Families who are currently on the wait list will be accommodated first. While we will endeavour to make another formal opportunity to move between learning models, it is important that families understand we cannot guarantee another opportunity to switch between modes of learning later this school year. If we can do so, it would occur mid-winter.

POTENTIAL BUS DELAYS AND CANCELLATIONS
Tri-Board Student Transportation has indicated there will likely be more bus delays and cancellations this year due to circumstances related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Transportation to and from school is not guaranteed. Families should have a backup plan to transport their student(s) to school, and to arrange child care where required, if their bus is cancelled for any reason and they cannot transport their student to school.
Families should ensure they are signed up to receive direct notifications, either by email, or Tri-Board’s app. Delays and cancellations are also posted to Tri-Board’s Twitter account.
