Peterson's News
10/2-10/6
It is hard for me to believe that October has started!!! Our students having been earning a lot of pledge points for following our Panther Pledges of Being Respectful, Responsible, and Safe!! We have also had a few Out of the Blue celebrations. What are Out of the Blue celebrations? They are a school-wide reward that is given at random times to celebrate our students following our Panther Pledges. We are working to fill our school-wide container for a whole school reward. We will be deciding on the whole school reward this week - stay tuned!
I look forward to another great week! As a reminder, we do not have school on Monday, October 9th in observance of Columbus/Indigenous People's Day.
Best,
Alli Landstrom
Supporting Social Emotional Learning
Teachers will teach the first lesson of our Second Step Curriculum this week. The Second Step curriculum teaches students the Social Emotional Learning standards in a developmentally appropriate way. Please see the following link for more information: https://www.isbe.net/Pages/Social-Emotional-Learning-Standards.aspx. The curriculum aligns with our Panther Pledges of Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Safe. Here is the link if you’re interested in more information: https://www.secondstep.org/second-step-social-emotional-learning
Each month has a theme. The themes are Setting the Stage, Skills for Learning, Empathy, Emotion Management, Problem Solving, and Friendship Skills. For the first four weeks, we have been Setting the Stage by reviewing our Panther Pledges of Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Safe. Beginning on Monday, our school-wide theme is Skills for Learning: listening, focusing attention, using self-talk to stay on-task, and being assertive when asking for help with a learning task. In our morning announcements, we’ll be reminding students of these skills, which help students be successful learners. Second Step lessons teach skills for learning. You’ll be receiving a Home Link this week describing why these skills are important and including fun activities to do with your child to practice them. We hope you enjoy them! The Home Links do not need to be returned unless directed by the teacher.
- In Kindergarten - Third grade, Home Links are sent home based upon the content, so a Home Link will not come home every week in these grade levels.
- In Fourth and Fifth grade, a Home Link will be sent home every week on Monday.
We will be posting the links for all grade levels on our website in the next couple weeks. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me or your child's teacher.
