NOVEMBER 2020
Dear Families,
Good afternoon and Happy November!
As I sit here in my office, I am still puzzled by the fact that some states in our Union have no problem counting ballots in a timely fashion and others need extra days and weeks to get it done. Nonetheless, it is my sincere hope, and hopefully your hope as well, that our newly elected leaders, as well as those returning to office, can find a way to unify our country, unify our communities, and that we can all move forward in a way that is much more constructive than most of the year 2020 has been.
It is also my hope, as we sit here during this first week of full-time rolling remote, that we are able to return our in-person learners back to our hallways and classrooms at Englewood High School as soon as possible. I do not like sitting here in my office in the middle of an eerily quiet school building. This building needs to be filled with the voices and laughter of our students. We know that this is the environment in which they learn best. Hopefully, as a society, we can get this pandemic under control to the point where we can safely return our students to school. In the meantime, we really need your help in encouraging our high school students to log in to their classrooms, login to their Zoom meetings, and to make sure that they're completing their assignments while we are on rolling remote. I think that some of the students still feel like this is going to be a repeat of last spring when many of the assignments didn't count. Just the opposite is true, these assignments in these classes are significant; they will be counted for grades and for transcript credits towards graduation. As I said in my email last week, each student should expect to be logged into a minimum of two if not possibly three or four Zoom calls each day. Their attendance is being taken each day, and we need to make sure that they are all engaged in their learning. I know that we can partner together as parents, teachers, and school leaders to ensure that our students are making the best of a tough situation.
In case you haven't checked it out yet, progress grades have been posted for all classes in Infinite Campus. Final grades for all courses during this fall semester will be posted in December. If there's a question about any grade from a class that was taken during the first quarter, or from a semester-long online class, please make sure that your student is in contact with their teacher.
We are already beginning to plan for the second semester, and our ultimate goal is to have students back here full-time every day. The reality is that the numbers around this pandemic are going to have to go down significantly in order for that to happen. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO CHANGE YOUR LEARNING ENVIRONMENT FOR THE SPRING SEMESTER, CLICK ON THE BUTTON AT THE TOP OF THIS NEWSLETTER. Nonetheless, we will begin the second semester in January with a schedule that will be flexible whether we are in person or online. For parents of juniors and seniors, please check out the two links below to make sure that you're not missing out on any deadlines for scholarship applications, college applications, important financial aid dates, or anything else that will help your junior or senior get ready for their education beyond Englewood High School. It's difficult to do many of these things in-person that normally would take place through our Futures Center and through our counseling office when we are operating in a remote environment. Also, please check the links below variety for Community Resources as well as mental health resources that you may find useful during these challenging times and as we approach the upcoming holiday season. As always, all of us here at Englewood High School, from the administration, to the counseling team, to all of our fantastic teachers, and to our tremendous support staff, are here to support you and all of our students during these difficult times. Feel free to reach out anytime with any questions you may have.
I wish you all a tremendous Thanksgiving holiday at the end of this month, and I hope that you have some valuable family time together as we prepare for the next holiday season at the end of the year. Have a great day, and I look forward to seeing and or talking to you soon.
