Mariner Memo
November 15, 2019
This Week at Marine City Middle School...
For the first time in recent memory we had our first snow day of the year...in NOVEMBER!!! What a crazy turn of events and change in the weather and the white fluffy stuff piled up on us earlier in the week. Despite this bump in our week and the early release day on Wednesday, it was still a wonderful week of teaching and learning at Marine City Middle School. A couple of quick reminders with the winter weather, especially as it applies to snow:
- We still try to get outside if it is warm enough, but it is often pavement only to stay out of the snow.
- We do not permit students to climb the snow piles or throw snowballs...we want to keep everyone safe.
- We want all students to wear winter jackets, gloves, and hats, but winter boots do not typically fit into our school lockers, which is why we will often go outside, but stay on the pavement.
We appreciate helping to communicate this message with your sons and daughters.
On a different note, I am happy to report that all of our first quarter grades are in and we have a remarkable number of honor roll students, those that had a GPA of 3.34 or higher. Congratulations to all of the students listed below!
Our after-school help room got started today with tutors from both the middle school and high school honor societies assisting middle school teachers with providing our students with help in their learning and on their homework. The help room will be available for all students on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30-3:30 in the media center.
Thank you for reading and supporting your son or daughter's learning here at Marine City Middle School. It is great to be a part of such a wonderful community!
Have a warm, wintry weekend!
-Mr. Ming

After-School Help Room Opens Up
Meeting every Tuesday and Thursday from 2:30-3:30 in the Media Center, the help room provides students the opportunity to get additional teacher and student mentor help with their academic work. It was wonderful to see the dedication and commitment to learning on display. It was also great to have both high school and middle school student mentors from the honor societies helping their peers in need.
Next week, the help room will be staffed by:
- Mrs. McLeod (math) on Tuesday
- Mrs. McLeod (math) and Mrs. Ross (social studies) on Thursday.
If your student needs additional support with their work, we hope to see them there!
On Tuesday, November 19th, there will be an informational meeting regarding the 2020 Washington DC trip. The meeting will take place in the Media Center at 6:00 pm. Please try to attend this meeting with your child, as it will have time sensitive and important information. Due to the fact that the trip will take place the second week of the 2020 school year, all travel arrangements will need to be made throughout the current school year.
PTO Rocks at MCMS!
Our next scheduled PTO meeting is this Monday, November 18th at 6 pm in the MCMS Media Center. We hope to see you there!
This Week in the Positivity Project...
Next week we move onto a special character strength for this time of the year, GRATITUDE. Gratitude is being aware and thankful for the good things in our life. Check out the 1-page overview of this character strength as well as the 1 minute intro video from co-founder Mike Erwin.
