Our Weekly Update
From Fourth Grade
Week of October 30th
Thank you for your support with GLO for it!!! We have exceeded our goal and have raised $100,043.96. This would not have been possible without your help! We thank you and hope you will be able to join us next Friday for our GLO celebration day. This will be similar to Field Day, where our students participate in activities for half of the school day. We cannot wait!!
If you did not get a chance to donate, you can still make donations until midnight tonight (10/27). Please click here to go to the website to make your donation!!
Next week is RED RIBBON WEEK! Please check out the flier below to see how we will be celebrating each day!
Book Character Dress Up Day is coming on Tesday, October 31st. We look forward to seeing what your children will select to portray. This event is another way we foster a love for reading with our students. Just a reminder, dress and props must comply with the student code of conduct handbook. Also, students should have a copy of the book they are representing to share with the class. This is sure to be a fun time for all!
One of our school’s proudest accomplishments is earning a 5 Star School Climate Rating. This is the highest rating available and indicates that students, staff, and parents feel included, safe and valued at our school. Georgia Parent Surveys are an influencing factor in this rating. We need each of you to click the link below and complete the survey to help us maintain our “5 STAR STATUS”. We’ll continue to remind you about this survey over the next few weeks.

What we are learning:
Mathematics:
Our Math rotations are going great! This gives them the chance to get out of their seats and learn in many different ways including small group with teacher, games, technology, and more!
Students should be working on Red Bird at home to practice math skills. This is a personalize learning tool that is adaptive to their needs, so please do not help them with the problems. This app can be accessed through Launch Pad, or use this direct link: https://fcs.redbirdschools.com/

Social Studies: ** TEST Friday 11/17/17**
In this unit, we will be learning all about the Challenges of the New Nation. We will discuss the Constitutional Convention, the freedoms granted by the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the branches of our government.
Reading Workshop
With the kick off of our informational unit, we are excited to be studying severe weather! We will be focusing on determining the main idea of a text, the supporting details, and how to summarize the text. We will be making connections to different types of non-fiction texts and determining the text structure. We will determine how it is organized. Texts have a few common structures: problem/solutions, compare and contrast, cause and effect, and chronological order.
Students' homework will reflect the skills we are focusing on in class, so your student will need to make sure they have an informational text to read at home. This includes all categories of informational text, not just severe weather.
Writing Workshop
We are also excited to begin our opinion writing unit focused on persuasive essays! Students will be learning how to make a claim and support their position with multiple reasons and evidence. The goal will be to convince readers of their opinion. Encourage students to think about topics or issues that they know well and have strong feelings toward.
Conduct Cards
Our conduct cards are used to ensure we're preparing our students to grow, and become independent and responsible. With that being said, conduct cards go home everyday. We need these signed weekly every Wednesday.
Students will get the opportunity to cash in for a coupon after two weeks. In order to cash in for a coupon, the students must have three or less marks, as well as the card being signed on each side.
