Glendale-River Hills

May 2020: School District Update

Dear Parents & Guardians-

As you may know, it's Teacher Appreciation Week! I wanted to take a moment to say thank you to all of our new "safer at home" teachers! You! Thanks to your incredible work (along with the help of our regular teachers and staff) we have successfully moved ALL of our Glendale River Hills students to virtual learning. Thank You!

We will continue communicating with you through these district newsletters every month. In addition, still plan on hearing from your principal bi-weekly, and your teacher on a weekly basis. Please note, if you need more (or less) communication we are able to make that happen on an individual basis. Just reach out. We are here to serve you and your children!

Sincerely,

Larry Smalley

THANK YOU for all the support!

Big picture

Summer Academy

Many parents have been asking and wondering what the district intends to do for our annual Summer Academy Program. Our communication in April indicated that we were still uncertain about how we intended to proceed for the summer.

Now that things seem more certain that "in-person" gatherings are unlikely for students, the school board will be discussing a proposal from the district. On Wednesday, May 6th (tomorrow), the school board will be presented with a VIRTUAL Summer Academy Option for all students.

Following the board meeting, another communication will be sent on Thursday, May 7th with updates on the actions taken by the board.

Grading & Assessment During the Closure

Also included on the May 6th School Board Meeting Agenda, is the grading and assessment policy during COVID-19. The final decisions and updates on grading will be shared, along with the Summer Academy Update, in a follow-up email on Thursday, May 7th.

A Message from Danielle Bailey- New School Board Member!

Hello families of Glendale-River Hills!

First, I must say that I am profoundly grateful to be a part of such a dedicated and supportive educational community right now. I know that everyone in our district is working harder than ever to keep our kids engaged, learning, healthy, and safe, and that includes all of us parents, guardians, and caregivers who are taking on the monumental task of homeschooling and virtual learning, on top of navigating life during a pandemic. I find solace knowing that we are all in this together. I ran for school board because I feel called to advocate for our kids and our community and because I want to support our district’s focus on equity and inclusion, and our goal of meeting every child where they are- physically, mentally, socially, and emotionally. As this public health crisis exacerbates already existing inequities and taxes all of our social and emotional needs, our district’s commitment to these ideals demands our increased focus and intention. I am eager to get to work supporting our district, and I look forward to getting to know more of you better throughout this journey.

In community,

Danielle Bailey

Get a REFUND on your lunch accounts!

Are you looking for a refund of your lunch account balance? If so, please follow these simple instructions to generate a refund request. In the event you leave your balance in the account, it will become usable again when face-to-face lunch occurs again.

  1. Send an email to the following address and request a refund: FoodServiceAccounts@glendale.k12.wi.us.
  2. These emails will go directly to Patti Walters, who will verify balances in Infinite Campus and will process any requested refund. If you have questions or problems, please call Patti Walters at 414-351-7160 ext. 2104. If Patti doesn't answer, please leave a message and she will get back to you ASAP.
  3. Once the balances are verified with Patti, she will process a refund against a credit card payment on the portal.
  4. A confirmation email is generated by RevTrak and will be sent to you showing the refund is complete.

Please know that Pandemic aside, the normal procedure has been refunding all 8th-grade student balances at the end of a school year unless there are siblings in lower grades, but due to the current state, we understand people may need these balances refunded sooner than later.

Update from The Spring Fling

Dear friends and families,

The Glendale-River Hills School District Foundation's annual Spring Fling fundraiser, which was originally planned for April 4 and then rescheduled to Saturday, June 6, has been postponed indefinitely in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

If you already purchased tickets to the event, please let us know whether you would like a refund by taking an on-line survey: https://forms.gle/cdzEPXXcN7MH8bbQ6. We will make every effort to refund money as quickly as possible. If you do not need a refund at this time, your tickets will be good for the next fling event.

I am so awed by the many ways our school community is supporting our children, families, and school staff, as we move to distance learning and as we face the many challenges ahead of us. When we are finally able to gather for a Foundation Fling -- whether it’s in spring or fall -- we'll fight over some fun swag in silent and live auctions, raise some money for our schools, and celebrate this amazing community.

For now, though, I wish each of you health and safety. Please don’t hesitate to call or email me if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Carla Pennington-Cross
