ALA Colorado Girl's State- Rising Seniors- Apply today!
Female high school students who have completed their junior year are competitively selected and sponsored by American Legion Auxiliary units for this program, where they learn about the political process by electing officials for all levels of state government and actively running a mock government. The girls are assigned to mock cities and either the “Federalist Party” or “Nationalist Party.”
Assistance from dedicated ALA volunteers ensures the program’s nonpartisan governmental, patriotic, and civic objectives are carried out through interactive learning. Though the week is filled with many learning opportunities, there is always time for fun and the formation of long-term friendships.
Candidates should be keenly interested in government and current events, and show strong leadership abilities. Because the structure of state and local government varies, ALA Girls State programs may vary in content and method of procedure, but each adheres to the same basic core values.
Boy's State
American Legion Colorado Boys State is a six-day hands-on experience in the operation of the democratic form of government, the organization of political parties, and the relationship of one to the other in shaping Colorado government.
The American Legion Colorado Boys State program is sponsored by the Colorado American Legion. The program cost is paid for by The American Legion.
At Boys State, young men learn about city, county, and state government through a non-partisan objective education approach. The young men also form friendships which will last a lifetime!
Boys state is for high school juniors going into their senior year with at least one semester left of school.

*** Colorado Area Choice ***Hello! I'm 18 years old and have had 9 years of English with an A grade average, a 10/10 on my English Oral Interview, and a 729 on my written ELTiS test. I am willing to attend any religion with you weekly. I enjoy baking, handball, sailing, scouts, snow skiing, and tennis. I would like to meet and get to know new friends, live in a host family, attend high school with all that comes with it and participate in activities I have not participated in earlier. I am a very friendly person who wants to be active in many different areas. Besides school I spend a lot of time with family and friends. I play handball and tennis every week and ski in the winter. My (red) hair color is also pretty unique. I'm positive and kind and will share my culture with the family who will host me. I love to play tennis, go skiing and trying new sports and activities and to spend time with family and friends. I look forward to participating in the family´s life and activities and I am openminded. I love to bake and cook and will make something Swedish for my host family to try.
Emma from Italy
********** Colorado Area Choice ********** Hello! I'm 17 years old, have had 10 years of English, and have a B+ grade average. I scored an 8/10 on my English Oral Interview and a 242 on my written ELTiS test. I am willing to attend any religion with you on holidays. We have two dogs at home as pets. I enjoy snow skiing. I want to study abroad to have a personal growth in order to become more independent and to learn how to live without my friends and family there. I feel mature to live in a foreign country because I've been practicing skiing since I was 3 years old and at the age of 8, I started to go on different trips with my trainers without my parents and each time I went to a different place and I always felt good in each situation. I think that I'm a person with a very good heart and that if I could I'd help everyone who's suffering in this world, that's why, if possible, I'd like to do volunteering during this experience. Once I took part in a volunteer organization of my church where we fed homeless people at soup kitchen for one night and it's been amazing. I hope that my host family can trust me. I'm interested in sports, and I have been skiing competitively for a while. I'm super loving, I quickly get attached to people with just a little bit of kindness. I love dogs so much. I'm determined, I care about achieving my dreams.
Alex from Ecuador
Hello! I am 18 years old, I have had 6 years of English and I have an A grade average, an 8/10 on my English Oral Interview, and a 230 on my written ELTiS test. I am willing to attend any religion with you weekly. We have dogs at home as pets. I enjoy aerobics, bicycling, chess, drawing, photography, and swimming. I would like to have another experience outside of my country and learn from other cultures. I am excited to learn another language and live other experiences with their cultures. I'm also an independent person. I am an artist by inheritance. I consider myself a creative guy and I like to share what I know. I want to study digital marketing. I will set my own clothing design business. I am interested in playing guitar and sing as a volunteer in church. I like to paint sunsets. I like to learn to cook so I hope that you are going to teach me how to cook American food.
Jacob from Sweden
Hello! I am 17 years old, have had 10 years of English and have a B+ grade average. I scored a 9/10 on my English oral interview and a 767 on my written ELTIS test. I am willing to attend any religion with you weekly. I enjoy reading, skiing, watching movies, debate, biking, playing board games, and camping. I am not really sure yet what I want to do after I finish school but I do have several interests. For example, academical ones such as math, science, psychology and history. I also hope to find a place that can teach me advanced programming. I will aim at receiving a high degree at a nice university in maybe Stockholm or Lund. There are other things I really enjoy too like music, the instruments I play – guitar and piano, working out, animals, fishing, travelling and much more. I am very determined to reach my academic goals as well as my personal physical goals. I want to be someone that contributes to my family, school and community. I would like to believe that my general open mind to anything new or challenging is something unique about me.
Thank you so much!
