Please call if your child will be late to school, absent, or leaving early.
Reminders
Keep your children home if they are sick. All children who are sent home must have a negative COVID test and/or an alternate diagnosis from a doctor clearing them to return to school. A doctor’s note must be submitted to the school nurse prior to return.
COVID testing is offered to students in the nurse’s office.
COVID testing consent forms are available online
COVID test Registration: https://app.clarifi-covid-19.com
Physicals
All 7th graders and any 8th graders new to the Cortland School District are required to have a physical examination. If your child has already had one and you have sent a copy to the nurse, you are all set. If we have not received a completed health form, your child has been
added to the group of school exams. School physicals are offered Monday and Wednesday mornings.
Hearing and near/distance vision screenings are required also for these students. If not recorded on the examination form by your child’s provider, they will be called down by the school nurse to complete these screenings.

7th Grade Art
The 7th grade students were given the opportunity to design or recreate their own shoes! Students were able to bring in an old pair of shoes they no longer used or choose a pair from a pile donated to us (thanks to those who helped!). They then went through the process of cleaning and recreating a design they imagined!
Math 8
Students have just concluded their geometry studies on transformations. Originally, classes talked about rigid motions which produce congruent shapes (translations, reflections, and rotations). Then students expanded their knowledge to include dilations where they changed the size and created similar figures.
Students are beginning a study of equations of lines. Classes will apply some of the same proportional reasoning they did in the dilations unit, and will refresh knowledge of algebraic equations.

String Orchestra
String Orchestra students have been working hard on the melody for a fiddle piece called “Flop-Eared Mule.” This month we will be getting the music and learning the whole song.
We are also starting our Quarter 3 Points Challenge to see who will earn the most points throughout the quarter. Check the Music Department Twitter to find out who our top 5 earners were for Quarter 2!
Finally, several students are preparing for the NYSSMA Solo Festival at the end of March!
String Lab students have been working hard learning their instruments! Several students have mastered “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star,” while others are learning to read and play eighth notes, and some are learning to read their notes on the music staff.
