From the Principal
Welcome Back! I hope you enjoyed some of the spring weather with your children over break! A few warm days can make us forget that Colorado can have crazy weather sometimes so please check the forecast for the day and help your child be prepared for any type of weather the day may bring! We are focused on getting outdoors more now so be prepared for all types of weather and even some mud! I hope you all had a relaxing fun filled spring break because we are heading down the final stretch of the 2020-21 school year and it is action packed! April brings kindergarten registration, state testing for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders, and May we will close out the year with class lists for next year, a field trip for all grades (Finally), and many more exciting events! Please look at the weekly update emailed to you every Sunday night for more information and continue to visit with your child(ren) about all the learning they accomplish in school. This daily discussion helps students better retain the information they are gaining each day.
Speaking of lots of learning…. It’s time for your students to show what they have learned during this year! Beginning April 12th, our third, fourth and fifth graders will begin our state testing sessions.Testing this year has been reduced and we will be sending out more specifics next week so please look for information coming home in backpacks. Here’s how you can help your student’s efforts: by making sure they are well rested, have a great breakfast, and a reminder from you about Why Try? and how Effort = Achievement. We are looking forward to seeing how your students are doing! Go Wildcats!
We have exciting news to share about EE! We are beginning to plant some veggies to transfer into the garden as the ground warms. This year we plan to grow some greens that our newest wildcat “the turtle” can eat! We also have been practicing hiking so we can build our stamina for our first field trip of the year coming in May! Every grade is going to go hiking somewhere in our area! Ask your student about the 10 Essentials needed to be safe on a hike!
Another exciting event is the construction of our new flower and sculpture garden around the flagpole! Look for your child’s creativity to sprout up in this area in the future. In the meantime, you may notice some construction happening in front of the school while we complete this new feature.
As I mentioned above, we will begin putting class lists together for next year in the beginning of May. I will entertain a letter from parents who are interested in a certain type of teacher or atmosphere for their child, but I do not take specific teacher requests. This letter needs to be submitted to me by April 26th and should include your child’s name and a description of the type of teacher or atmosphere you feel your child will be most successful with next year. As usual there will be some teacher changes because of the number of students enrolled in each grade level at this time. The administrative team will use the information you provide to best meet your child’s needs.
This month, I wanted to share with you that we put together a safety plan for our music classes and we have been approved to actually SING in music for the first time all year! The hall near the music room is now alive with the sweet sound of your children’s voices! We will be sharing some of this with you at the end of the year as we plan our last musical and our end of year activities!
Thank you for sharing your children with us and for all you do to help make our school a great place! Please check the Sunday weekly email for information regarding all our upcoming events! As always, call or stop in and let us know how we are doing.
P. S. Please spread the word that kindergarten registration is open for next year!
Sincerely,
Kathi Senor
