Franklin Pierce High School Community Newsletter
FPS District Equity Statement
DISTRICT AREAS OF FOCUS AND IMPROVEMENT:
- Equity and Social Justice
- Improved Instruction
- Family and Community Partnership
Dear Parents and Guardians,
At Franklin Pierce High School, we are proud to provide our students with an enriching and relevant education that will prepare them for success throughout their lives! Our theme this year is “CommUNITY: We are the community. The community creates the culture. The culture is what we EXPECT and ALLOW.” We have high expectations for all of our students and encourage our students to create a vision for themselves beyond high school and dedicate and commit themselves to the hard work and perseverance required to achieve their goals. The path to success is rarely easy, but it is always worth it, and anything worth doing is worth doing well.
While academic excellence is our primary emphasis, we are also investing our time and energy into creating a school culture that emphasizes equity, social justice, and family and community partnerships. We encourage all students to take a strong stance against bullying and all forms of hate speech. We encourage every student to speak up and tell an adult if they or others being treated unfairly. Remember, “If you see something, say something.” We also provide our students with school-wide character lessons throughout the year to promote kindness, responsibility, and respect. We’ve adopted AC/DC as our driving pillars for success: Academic Excellence, Campus Safety, Determination, and Community.
We continue to build upon our robust CTE courses (Career and Technical Education) in order to provide students with real-world, hands-on experience in engineering, culinary arts, medical sciences, information technology, financial literacy, and video production. At the same time, we continue to emphasize the arts by offering ceramics, stained glass, community art, choir, band, drama, and guitar to create a well-rounded educational experience and tap into all our students’ interests.
We encourage all students to be involved in extra-curricular activities such as sports, clubs, and community service. Most of our clubs were formed by our students, so if a student has an interest in starting a club, just let us know. We are dedicated and passionate about our work, and we’re committed to providing our students with an education that will help them to discover, pursue, and achieve all their ambitions beyond high school. We talk about the “Three E’s” after high school: Enrollment, Enlistment, or Employment. We encourage students and families to select an E so that we can provide the appropriate supports and preparation to achieve that goal.
If you wish to be more involved in these efforts, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We welcome, encourage, and are grateful for a collaborative relationship with our parents and community members in order to best serve and prepare our students for success.

Preparing for the New School Year for Parents and Students:
- Don't wait until the night before Day 1 to change your summer sleep patterns. Start getting to bed earlier and waking up earlier about a week before school starts so that you're not half-asleep during the school day. Parents, the best way you can help with this is to make sure that all electronic devices are in your possession before bedtime. The #1 reason students aren't getting enough sleep is because they're on cell phones, gaming devices, or tvs.
- Parents, please have a serious talk with your child about only using cell phones at school during appropriate times only (before school, passing periods, lunch time, after school). Cell phone use during instructional time continues to be a significant distraction from learning. Cell phones are not to be used during class time. The cell phone and social media addiction is real, and we simply can't compete with the latest tik tok or youtube video. Students who cannot manage to stay off their cell phones during instructional time will be removed from class. During class time, our one and only goal is Academic Excellence.
- Have a family talk about your goals for this school year. How are you pursuing academic excellence to prepare yourself for success in the future? What is your E after high school (Enrollment, Enlistment, Employment)? How are you getting involved in your school community (sports, music, arts, clubs, leadership, etc.)? How are you choosing your friends? Do they make you a better person? Are they helping you get closer to achieving your goals?

CARDINAL SPORTS!
The summer athletic season is upon us. Many coaches and programs have already begun practicing and training for the summer. If you are interested in getting connected with a program there are a few things to know.
- If you already registered for that sport this school year, then your registration is still valid for summer participation as long as your physical is current. Physicals are good for two years.
- If you did not participate in that sport this school year and you will be new to that sport, then you will need to register in FamilyID like you would for any other sport.
- If you are coming to us from Ford. You will need to register in FamilyID for the sports of your choice before turning out for practices.
- If you have a current physical at Ford, then they have already sent your physical expiration dates to us and they are in the process of sending copies of your physicals to the high school.
- At the end of the summer, Franklin Pierce High School will be switching registration platforms to Final Forms. At this time, all athletes will need to register for their sport on the Final Forms platform before being able to turn out for sports in the fall!
- Here is the current contact information for coaches at Franklin Pierce HS. Please reach out to these coaches for additional information about their summer plans.

NEW Performing Arts Center!
We are very excited about breaking ground on our new Performance Arts Center! We are in eager anticipation of the day that we can fully showcase the talents of our band, orchestra, choir, drama programs, and so much more!
- Part of the "cost" for a new Performing Arts Center is going to be a little dust, a lot of change, and even a few inconveniences. Please, bear with us as we work through the "under construction" phase with an estimated completion date of the start of the 2023-24 school year.
- Student and Staff Parking: All staff and students must park together in the parking lot alongside 112th St. The section nearest the tennis courts is reserved for staff parking. The section nearest the stadium is reserved for student parking. Students and staff must drive all the way around the school to access the new student/staff parking lot. Please, do not cut through the drop-off and pick-up zone to park.
- AM student drop-off and PM student pick-up and zones. Please, do not park in the drop-off and pick-up zones between 7:30am and 3pm. The drop-off and pick-up zones will be the same for 2022-23 as they were for the end of 2021-22.
- Main Entrance: The former main entrance to the building is no longer accessible. The new main entrance is on the south end of the main building near the student pick-up and drop-off zone.
- Handicapped Parking has been relocated to the stalls in the drop-off zone nearest the new main entrance.
- Bicycle Parking has been relocated to the 1400 building (outside the band classroom).
- Pedestrians in the drop-off and pick-up zone should use the pedestrian walkway along the fence line.
- As with all construction projects, almost everything is subject to change. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
