Who's Hiring?
Egg Drop Science
Recently, the students in Mrs. Kaufman’s classes used their knowledge of Newton’s Laws of motion to design a container that would protect an egg and cause it to descend at a slow speed while meeting strict design requirements. Each student was assigned a job title to research and contribute to their final design prototype. These jobs included:
- Aerospace Engineer (Specializes in understanding how objects fly through the air and develops a parachute to slow the egg’s descent.)
- Structural Engineer (Specializes in building strong structures and responsible for constructing the outer casing of the prototype.)
- Packaging Engineer (Specializes in choosing the best materials for the job, balancing strength, compression, and weight. Responsible for providing cushion to protect the egg on impact.)
Students had a blast designing and testing their prototypes while exploring objectives related to force and motion, including speed, velocity, and acceleration.
