Principal's Message
PTMS Families,
One of the truly special elements of Pacific Trails is the community feeling that permeates the campus each and every day. It has been really wonderful seeing how our community provides support. Our recent food drive collected over 900 lbs. of food that will go to those in need! Outstanding!!! Further, our Popcorn and Pajama drive has also been very successful.
Recently, our counselors and admin team rolled out the PTMS Ambassador program. The intention is for our current students to serve as liaisons for new students who arrive throughout the school year. With over 575 responses, we had over 100 students wishing to help out. The desire to support and help out is awesome - and certainly builds community.
I've also noticed community happening each and every day - at lunch playing various games outside, hanging out in the Learning Commons, during club meetings, or chatting at the lunch tables. These connections foster community and increase students' sense of belonging.
Speaking of community, next week, I hope you can come to the PTMS Holiday Howl on Thursday December 15. The event showcases live music from our performance groups, a few food trucks, and other activities. I will be bringing my family, and we hope that many from our community come and enjoy time together.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Scott Wild
Principal
Counseling Update
The second semester starts on Wednesday, January 11, 2023. Our Wolves are enrolled in year-long classes so students will follow the same class schedules when we begin the new semester. The second semester schedule changes that will be addressed are for level changes in English, math or Spanish and will be accommodated if space is available. If a level change is a consideration for your student, please have them first talk with their teacher to get feedback and if agreed on with parent/guardian, please email your student’s counselor by Friday, December 16.
This is often the time of year when some families are applying to private schools for the next school year. Please know that San Dieguito Union High School District school staff do not write letters of recommendation or fill out any type of rating scales for local private schools. All of our local schools are aware of this policy and it will not inhibit admission in any way. All requests for academic records should be sent to Marielle Bravo-Saltzman, our Registrar, using the form typically included in admission packets.
Next week during Homeroom, students will see our first activity as part of this year’s No Place For Hate accreditation. Our NPFH student committee met this week to go over the lesson, offer feedback, and discuss other ways to make our campus a welcoming place for all. It is great to see our student leaders working together to make positive changes.
SDCOE is offering a free parent webinar on “Taking Care of your Emotional and Mental Health while Parenting” on December 15th at 6:00 p.m. For more information, please see this flyer.
