The B.Y.E. Buzz
Week of April 26
Principal Corner
We are so proud of all of our students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade for working hard on the ACT Aspire test. Next week we will begin MAP testing for Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade. Teachers can give you specific information regarding dates and times. 3rd- 5th graders will also be participating in MAP testing over the next two weeks. Stay tuned to grade-level notes regarding specifics.
I encourage you to make sure your child gets plenty of rest, a good breakfast, and a positive start to each school day. Thank you for working with us to have your child at school on each testing day. Please see the student technology policy below. Students will need to leave technology at home during testing.

Tips from the Counselor- Test Taking Strategies
We are quickly approaching the end of the school year which means your child will be taking part in standardized testing. Some children struggle with testing and test anxiety, below are some tips and tricks that will help your child be successful.
For Students: Get a good night’s sleep, have a nutritious breakfast, relax and take slow, deep breaths during testing, follow directions and read each question carefully, move on if you don’t know an answer and come back to it later.
For Parents: Make sure your child gets a good night’s rest, make sure your child eats breakfast, make sure your child gets to school on time, send your child to school with words of praise and support, practice deep breathing with your child, send a letter of encouragement with your child that they can read before the test.
Perseverance
For the months of April and May we are focusing on the word perseverance. Perseverance is the drive to keep working even when things get hard and you want to quit.
Practice it!
Help your child learn to persevere by engaging in difficult tasks with him/her. Buy a large puzzle, learn and perfect a new skill, etc.. Find something to do together and commit to pushing each other through the challenge.

What do you think perseverance means and why is it important?
Tell me about a time when it was hard to get through a challenge. How did you feel afterwards?
What are some things that are hard for you to push through, and how can I help you?
What are 3 goals you have? What may be some challenges to meeting these goals? What will happen if you don’t give up?
