Middle School Study Session- Message from Dr. Hill
Dear West Bloomfield Staff,
The West Bloomfield Board of Education has tasked district administration with creating a workgroup of district stakeholders to study the feasibility of transitioning the student bodies of Abbott Middle School and Orchard Lake Middle School onto the same campus prior to the opening of West Bloomfield Middle School in the fall of 2022.
- be the first to respond to my email and win lunch for you and your team. You must say I read it in the subject line.
This group, comprised of district administration, building administration, teachers, counselors and parents, is charged with studying the factors associated with moving all middle schoolers to Abbott Middle School for either the 2020-2021 or the 2021-2022 school year. The workgroup’s recommendation will be given to the Board of Education by April 2020.
The need for this potential middle school transition plan was identified as the construction timelines for the new West Bloomfield Middle School have been established. Transitioning all Orchard Lake Middle School students prior to the 2022-2023 school year will be necessary to ensure that the new West Bloomfield Middle School is completed and ready for students in the fall of 2022.
We will, of course, be keeping the community updated on what this group of stakeholders identifies as their recommendations going forward once those findings are determined.
In the meantime, if you have any questions for myself or the Board of Education, I invite you to connect with us via the district’s Talk to Us feature on our website. This tool will help send your thoughts, concerns or praise to the appropriate groups within the district for a response.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to determine the best possible course of action for our district as we transition towards the new West Bloomfield Middle School.
Sincerely,
Dr. Gerald Hill
WBSD Superintendent
