Happy Constitution Day! September 17, 2021

Friday was the "Birthday of The Constitution," and in honor of that occasion, 5th grade students from Mrs. Ekman's and Mrs. Kahlberg's class shared with all of our fellow Pelicans some facts about the Constitution as well as performing the Preamble for us. They were well-rehearsed and knew their material! Many thanks to the Hollywood Beach Preamblers: Khloe B. & Brendan L. from Mrs. Kahlberg's Class, and Damian Z & Elias Z from Mrs. Ekman's class. Great job, Pelican Preamblers!

PTA Fundraiser Kickoff! Step it Up Is Coming!

This Monday, PTA's big fundraiser kicks off! The kickoff will be virtual this year, to keep student safety in the forefront. Please look for your child's packet Monday night, and fill out the info sheet for us. This fundraiser raises the bulk of the funds that PTA uses to support our students and school all year long, so please help as much as you can. Watch the backpack for the kickoff packet and the "GOLDEN TICKET"!

It's Election Season! Time for Student Council Elections!

Student council elections are coming! On September 28th, students in 4th through 6th grade will have the opportunity to vote for their chosen candidates to represent them on the Student Council board. New this year, candidates are creating campaign videos that will be shown in all upper-grade classes. We have around thirty brave students who are running for several positions and we are very proud of each one of them! Good luck to all of our student leaders!

Panorama Survey - How Our Students Are Feeling About School

We know that coming back to school in person after such a long break can be challenging and stressful for our Pelicans, big and small. Our focus this year is first and foremost on our students' well-being and social-emotional health. Calm and happy kids learn better, and we want to make sure they feel calm, happy and well-cared for here at HBS.

We are excited to learn more about our students' needs by having the students in K-6 participate in two Social and Emotional Learning Surveys this year. Last year's survey let us know that our students feel connected to our school, that they feel they can learn whatever is presented, that they can learn hard things and that they feel they have trusted staff here to come to when they need us. We are looking forward to learning about their thoughts about goal-setting, sticking with a project, and how the feel about their classmates, among other topics. The survey is available in the school office and you are welcome to come by and check it out before students take the survey.

Please note: Your child does not have to take the survey. You can come by the school office and sign a form to indicate this if you so choose, but we hope that you'll allow your Pelican to participate so that we can set some school-wide goals to better support your student.

Thank you , families, for your help with the transition, and for all your wonderful comments about our Extended Day program and awesome Kinder team!
