Lady Vikings Roast The Ducks
12/14
8th B vs Taylor
The Lady Vikings traveled to Taylor for the second time. In our second showing, we came with a plan and executed it well, shutting down their main shooters. While the Lady Ducks still came away with the win 20-32, it was a great effort from our Lady Vikings. I’m proud of the work they are putting in each week at practice and it’s starting to show each game. Offensively Kennedy Brown came alive in the second half of the game. She was able to drive past their halfcourt press and put up 9 points for her team. Elle Head, Sofia Garcia, and Hannah Koenning were also a contributing factor in our offense. Each adding points to our score. Defensively Melany Cardenas, Ava Bailey, and Leah Escalona were given a very specific task in defending against the Lady Ducks powerful Center. They executed well and led their team in steals. Valerie Marin and Helen Munoz played well coming up with a few defensive rebounds. Enjoy your winter break. I’m looking forward to seeing where the 2nd half of the season takes us.
7th B vs Taylor
The Lady Vikings traveled to Taylor to claim yet another victory over the Ducks. Winning 26-12 these ladies were dominating against the Ducks. Peyton Christensen was the offensive player of the game scoring 12 of the 26 points for her team. Lauren Carpenter and Liana Stevens scored a combined effort of 8 points and also shined offensively. Aaliyah Arthur made a basket for her team and also played very well on offense. Molly Cortez had some great defense working against the Taylor Ducks. Stella Maxwell stole the ball from the Lady Ducks and helped assist her team with a big win. Madison Hawes had a basket and some great rebounds. Shelby Rosprim also scored a basket and played hard on defense, she stole the ball several times from Taylor. Stella Granger, Sienna McGuire, and Ariana Yorek also helped their team with a big win last night. Congratulations ladies and way to work hard!
7th A vs Taylor
We traveled to Taylor last night to face the Lady Ducks. The score was a dominating 36-0. The Lady Ducks had no chance against our fierce Lady Vikings. Our offense proved yet again why these ladies are some of the best. Lila Rodriguez was our offensive MVP for last night’s game scoring a total of 14 points. Lila or “Rose” as we like to call her plays hard and comes up with many steals and rebounds throughout the game. Lilah Culbreth scored a total of 10 points, had 3 steals and 2 assists. She also continues to contribute so much for her team. Te’A Turner scored 6 points for her team and also stole the ball many times from the Taylor Ducks helping her team score more points. Kinsley Boyd better known as lightning could not be stopped by the Lady Ducks. She steals the ball and goes from 0-100 before they even know what happened. Aislin Munoz scored a basket to assist her team with their win. She also played defense very well and turned the ball over several times to get a quick goal for the Lady Vikings. Shy Krishamurthy also scored a basket and had many assists to add to her team's victory. Annabelle Wheeler had a great shot and made points on the board for her team. Annabelle had some great rebounds to add to the team's value. Rain Nelson helped contribute to the win with her quick feet and getting the ball to her team to assist in goals. Overall, we continue to learn and grow each week. These ladies always have a fighting spirit and are ready to take on the next. We have a long break to get some rest and recovery before we get back at it. Enjoy the holidays and we will see you soon!
8th A vs TAYLOR 8th Girls Get Big Win for Christmas!
The ladies were on the road at Taylor for their last competition of 2023 this past Thursday evening. On their last trip to Taylor the girls played a pretty tough first half keeping the score tight but the 2nd half of that game saw the Lady Ducks fly away for a 20 pt win. The girls were hoping for a better result this time around. From the opening tip the girls were off to a quick start scoring 5 pts in the first minute. Taylor would eventually tie the score but everytime the Lady Vikings responded with more baskets from made layups off of forced turnovers and hitting a few big corner 3 pointers. The frequent scoring early on was indicative of an offensive explosion in the making for the Lady Vikings on this night. Not even midway through the 2nd quarter Jolie Mosser converted another layup off a steal that got the girls their very important 20th point of the night. After hustling back to her defensive spot Jolie took a quick turn towards the bench and hollered out “donuts” to which the bench erupted with a cheer. An agreement was in place made last week with me where I would bring Round Rock donuts the following morning if they were to score 20 pts in a game. Anything to encourage more shot taking, rebounding, and scoring. The deal with the girls paid off big on this night, and the girls didn’t stop their tally at 20. They continued to score by creating turnover after turnover, converting on more baskets, building a bigger and bigger lead. The game wouldn’t be all easy as late in the 3rd quarter the Lady Ducks would convert on some turnovers of their own. Combined with a cold spell from the Lady Vikings the lead was whittled down to single digits. Taylor would never get closer than 6 points as the Lady Vikings would close out the game with some timely buckets, continued defensive effort, and even played their own version of keep away from the Ducks, running precious time off the clock. The final score was Lago Vista 42 (that meant double the donuts) and Taylor 34. A big win for the Lady Vikings and the result of their efforts during drills in practice developing their defensive, offensive, and shooting skills. It was great to see a big pay off for the Ladies' hard work and I couldn’t be happier for them. It was awesome seeing the girls enjoy each other's success throughout the game. They were all rooting for each other from the opening tip to the final buzzer. A fitting way to wrap up 2023, with another win for LVMS!!!
