Family Engagement... MPS Style

The True Reward that is connected to family engagement is student success
As a staff member, think about what parent engagement looks like to you. Do families attend conferences or attend parent events? Maybe parent engagement to you is simply when families respond to your phone calls or emails! We in the Family Engagement Department are working hard to break down barriers in order for families to be engaged in their child's learning... whether that engagement happens at school or in the home. School-Home Partnership Team (SHPT) meetings are slowly breaking down barriers between home and school. The vision statement for SHPT reads, “Partnering with families, schools and communities for the lifelong success of our children''. SHPT meetings are held monthly at each school and are focused solely on creating an environment for parents to be actively involved in what's going on in their student's school. I have been working with families in various school settings for the last 20 years. I truly believe that if schools can increase parental involvement, student success will increase, parent and teacher satisfaction will increase with an overall improvement to school climate. Staff and board members are encouraged to stop into anyone of the meetings!
