Paula Maxwell & Cathy Novosad
Kevin Parr
Math Models
We have introduced you to Mrs. Rogers and Coach Parr in previous newsletters, but we wanted to highlight them again as our Advanced Algebra and Math Models teachers.
Mrs. Maxwell and Mrs. Novosad have been working with our math teachers for many years as our Special Education teachers. Mrs. Maxwell assists Mrs. Laven, Mrs. Barnell, and Coach Parr. Mrs. Novosad assists Mrs. Hokett, Mrs. Barnell, Mrs. Mendoza, and Coach Marburger. They are a tremendous help to our teachers and students. We couldn't do it without them!

What's Happening in Math at FHS?
Polynomial Graphing Activity
Students in Mrs. Barnell and Mr. Marburger's Conceptual Algebra 2 classes recently learned all about polynomial functions. The students were given different problems and worked in groups to complete the assignment. Students had to apply all of the skills from their polynomial unit in this activity. Both teachers were excited to see it all come together for students in their classes!
Dividing Polynomials Scavenger Hunt
Students in the Algebra 1 classes completed a scavenger hunt activity to practice dividing polynomial equations. This concept is one of the harder ones of the year, and students progressed through the scavenger hunt with little to no problem. Scavenger hunts are a great way for students to check their answers throughout the activity. If they cannot find the answer in the hunt, they immediately know there is an error in their work. Great job Algebra 1 team!
House Design Activity
Students in the Algebra 1 classes completed an activity in which they were given the plans for a house and had to determine certain measurements based on a task card given. The task cards asked students to determine the area and perimeter of rooms within the house. Students practiced adding, subtracting, and multiplying polynomials throughout the activity. Teachers enjoyed applying polynomials to a real world situation so students could see the value and need for what they were learning.
Conic Section Projects
Students in Pre-AP Pre-calculus classes completed their Conic Section Projects this month. Students had to create a picture using at least 8 conic sections (2 circles, 2 parabolas, 2 ellipses, and 2 hyperbolas). The end results were amazing! Great job!!
