Principal's Message
Talofa, Kia ora, Malo e lelei, Habari, Hello, Sawadee, Kia orana, Dia duit, Ma muka chini,
Reminder all nominations are due this Wednesday. You can send them in to our office and they will be delivered to St Mary's School Putaruru Wednesday. Remember you can nominate yourself or someone you know. Bishop Gaines School is a fabulous school and we want to make it even more fantastic! We need our community to recognise that being part of the Board means you will be part of making positive changes happen that will ultimately benefit our students and our growth.
Well done to our tamariki who represented us at the Tauranga Sports /Cultural Exchange on Monday. You all did a stellar job and thanks to Annie and Sam who accompanied them.
Just a reminder that students have to be in appropriate clothes for our sports on Wednesdays. Wearing uniform to do PE activities is not ideal. Students do not have the comfort and ease of movement in their uniforms. Please ensure your child wears shorts and a tee for this. Thanks.
There is a Baptism Korero this Tuesday 2:45pm at school. If you would like for your child to be baptised-this information session is for you!
We are holding a number of fundraising initiatives this term, so keep your eye out for these. Thanks to Kathleen who donated orchid plants to sell. They have been selling like hot cakes!
Ma te Atua koutou e manaaki—God’s blessings,

Pope's August prayer intention: 'For small businesses'
As August kicks off, Pope Francis is calling on Catholics to pray for small and medium-sized businesses, so that "in the midst of economic and social crisis, they find ways to continue operating, and serving their communities.”The Pope released his monthly prayer intention on Tuesday in a video prepared by the Pope's Worldwide Prayer Network. In the message, he recognizes the "courage, effort and sacrifice" of small and medium-sized entrepreneurs, and acknowledges that they are among the most affected by "the grave socio-economic crisis," brought to new heights by wars and the devastating Covid-19 pandemic. According to statistics for 2021 from the World Bank, one in four companies lost half of their volume of sales because of the global pandemic. Further exacerbating their reality is that they do not receive adequate public assistance.
In his video message, the Pope praised those who through their workshops or shops “invest in life," by "generating well-being, opportunities and work.”The Holy Father acknowledged their hard work and constant sacrifices made, in order to invest in the common good.
