Letter from the Principal
Dear Tualatin Black Bear Families,
The time is almost here. We will all be ready to see our Tualatin Elementary Black Bear students back on campus over the next two weeks. We will first welcome 1st - 5th grades on Wednesday, September 8th. Then we are excited to have our PreK & Kindergarten students join everyone on Tuesday, September 14th. We had very successful PreK and Kindergarten socials on August 28th. Thank you PTA for supporting these times for families to see familiar faces and meet some new friends.
Family Connect Meetings
Our Family Connect meetings are going very well so far. We encourage everyone to schedule them virtually, but some in person times may be available. Please sign up with your child’s teacher if you have not done so already.
As I shared last week, we are once again relying on the strong family partnerships needed to responsibly open school next week on September 8th. Our goal is to keep our school doors open each day this year while following current safety and health guidance responsibly to support and protect all students and staff.
LUNCH TIME UPDATE:
All meals for breakfast, lunch and snacks will take place outside for at least the first 4-5 weeks of school. This is the safest and most responsible way for our school to have students enjoy eating with their masks off during different times of the day. Students will sit at tables, spaced at 6 ft and in class cohorts under our covered area behind the gym. There are several reasons for this change.
Outside offers the highest level of safety for everyone when masks are off
Outside provides the best ventilation for air circulation while masks are off
Outside spaces significantly reduces community spread of COVID-19
We will have all supervisors in one location instead of two
We will have one location to set up and take down each day
We will use cafeteria space for additional PE specials every day
IPADS & CHARGERS
Please send your child’s iPad to school with your child on their first day of school
Families may keep chargers at home if needed
Chargers may be sent back to school if not needed at home
We will definitely be able to use chargers at school if returned
General reminders for what to expect:
Masks required for all adults and students indoors
Masks required for all adults and students outside
Students will be distancing at 3 feet during the school day
Adults will be distancing at 6 feet during the school day
Masks are not required while eating during lunch and snacks outside
We will distance students at a minimum of 6 feet during lunch while eating
Students will have music and PE with safety measures
Volunteers should be able to come back to school starting in October
Thank you again for your trust and partnership as we get ready to safely and responsibly return to full days of school.
Go Black Bears,
Mr. Kingery

Pick up and Drop Off at Tualatin Elementary
ARRIVAL
We are asking parents to drop off students at the parking lot sidewalk or near the flagpole prior to reaching the "Bear Crossing". Students will then follow the bear paws on the sidewalk to the front door under cover area and wait on a bear paw until the doors open according to the schedule.DISMISSAL
Students will meet parents at the flagpole or on the parking lot sidewalk. School staff will assist directing students to cars by the parking lot curb as in the past. We ask that all parents stay in their cars and display the sign with student name(s) and teacher name. Please socially distance on the upper sidewalks or a bear paw while waiting.
Important: please communicate how your child will be going home with your child’s teacher:
WALKING HOME: Independently or with friends - designate a spot to meet before walking home. Please let your child’s teacher know if we need to help with this.
CAR PICK-UP: Be patient and please wait in your car. When we see the sign with student name(s) and teacher(s) we will call for them to come out along the sidewalk.
IN-PERSON PICK BY FLAGPOLE: When we see the sign with student name(s) and teacher(s) we will call for them to come out
