Kia ora whānau
Wow! What a week we have had. I feel so incredibly proud of our kids and staff after an epic three nights of performances last week. There was a huge range of emotions, with some of our learners chomping at the bit to get on stage and others who would probably rather be doing anything else! It was amazing to see that by the end of the week, all of our kids were more at home on the stage and feeling the magic that is production time. We had a Friday of fun last week, with a lunchtime dance party - the kids pretty much know the actions for every act and ice blocks as a treat for such an amazing job of performing throughout the week.
A huge thanks to Rebecca, who spent hours writing the script and working alongside the main cast, along with Helen Lares and Ali Stothers. Also, the production team, who spent a lot of time ironing out a million details, and the rest of the staff for working so hard to get their classes sorted and looking so polished. I love our staff and appreciate their dedication and hard work. Thanks also to our whānau, who helped out in so many ways. We couldn’t have done it without you!
We are lucky enough to have a parent who is a photographer who has taken some incredible photos - thanks so much, Guillaume, for sharing these with us.
I have attached a link below for you to have a look at. Please be mindful of the privacy of our kids before sharing these on any public platforms such as Facebook.
Next week, we are welcoming Sarah Jones to our team as she joins Nick Smud in Kākano Hub 2. We are welcoming another 18 ish learners to our new entrant team between now and the end of the year. Sarah has worked with us as a reliever over the past two years, and we are so excited for her to join the team until the end of the year. Welcome, Sarah!
Heart of Gold
Many of you will know our lovely Roo from your interactions with him around the school grounds. He has one of the kindest hearts I know of. I felt so proud after talking to Roo about his cool new haircut. It turns out it was his first trip to the hairdressers in 4 years, and the hair that was cut is being sent away to be used to create wigs for people who are undergoing cancer treatment. You’re a star, Roo! You have such an impact at our school and beyond.
On the property front, some of you may have seen the sprucing up of the container down by the hall. Thanks to your generosity, this container is being transformed into a loose parts play shed full of fantastic equipment that will ignite imagination and creativity. Grass has been sown, and a pathway and courtyard area are being created so that it can be used in all weather. A huge thanks to the PTA for all of their efforts towards this. We are hopeful that this will be in action from term 4 onward.
Te Wiki o te Reo Māori - Māori Language Week
We will be celebrating Te Wiki o te Reo Māori next week, ending with an assembly on Friday at 9.15 a.m. Both the Junior and Senior Kapa Haka groups will be performing. The theme of the week is ‘Kia Kaha te Reo Māori’ - making the language stronger, which is ongoing focus at our school. We are excited to continue working on our pronunciation and adding to our bank of kupu (words).
Finally, a big thank you for all the messages of support from our whānau after the news of my resignation. Yesterday was a very big day. I am really looking forward to ending the year on a high.
