Classroom Management
Another great week!
I sent out a sign-up genius on Tuesday this week for parent teacher conferences. If you did not receive that email, please let me know as soon as possible so I can be sure a time slot is available for you! I look forward to meeting with everyone to discuss your child's progress in third grade. I allocate 15 minutes per child in order to fit all 29 kids in. You can see the sign up genius at http://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040f45ada72dab9-mrs3
Also please remember that my website has a color coded calendar of all events. I try to update it as often as possible! You can visit it at http://mrsgiannandrea3.weebly.com/
Writing Workshop
This week we worked hard in writing workshop. We are finishing up our writing process on our first personal narrative and we are ready to publish using Google Docs. We also worked on Halloween costume writing paragraphs that included spooky descriptions and detailed similes.
Reading Workshop
Mrs. G pulled small groups all week to work on specific skills. Fluency groups worked on reading phrases fluently and timed themselves reading passages. Comprehension groups worked on comprehension strategies with a third grade passage. We worked hard on logging our reading every day on biblionasium.com. Mrs. G will have a challenge next week to see who can try to log their reading at home at least three times. We also have had a lot of success with bookadventure.com Many students made their bookadventure goal this week! Students take comprehension quizzes on books that they choose to read during independent reading time. The results of the quizzes are a great indicator if they are choosing the "just right" books at their independent reading level.
Word Work
We talked about or and ore words for spelling this week. We also experienced writing sentences for all of our spelling words on spellingcity.com. Most students finished Unit 5 this week and are ready for Unit 6.
Math
We are cruising along with unit 2 this week. We accomplished lessons 2-3 - 2-7. I am super proud of the hard work students have done on homelinks.
Social Studies
We talked about Michigan regions at the beginning of the week. We have been working on our digital projects using Google Slides. I am using this assignment as an assessment and the kids are producing fabulous work! The best part is they are completely engaged and enjoying themselves. If you want to see how your child's Michigan project turned out, you can go to Google Drive, put in their email address and email password located on the inside of your agenda. Please don't allow your child to add or change anything at this point. We will be adding more for each unit in social studies to have an overall record of everything learned this school year!
