Battle of the Books - March 5th
The Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) is a statewide voluntary reading motivation and comprehension program sponsored by the Oregon Association of School Libraries in conjunction with a Library Services and Technology Act grant. Students in 3rd-12th grade, regardless of ability, are exposed to quality literature representing a variety of literary styles and viewpoints.
OBOB’s mission is to encourage and recognize students who enjoy reading, to broaden reading interests, to increase reading comprehension, promote academic excellence, and to promote cooperative learning and teamwork among students.
ACMA has 4 teams in the middle school and one in the high school. Each team reads 16 books. The battles will be March 5th and the winning team goes onto regionals on March 10th at Century High in Hillsboro.Letter Writing Campaign

Whether or not you were able to attend the district information night you are welcome bring your questions that morning! We will spend some time going over the pros and cons of various college options and then answer your questions.
For those interested in going to Career directly from high school, BSD’s Career Technical and Experiential Education Fair is for you! Held on Tuesday March 6th at Merlo Station High School, this event explores financially rewarding careers that require just 1-2 years of post-high school training.
Aesop's Falables
Loosely based on a collection of infamous fables, this is a "laugh-in"-type revue. Taking its more-or-less plot from Sir Wilfred Wolf, who claims he has been wrongfully typed by Aesop as the bad guy, the play undertakes to overturn other fables. Aesop's Falables draws new morals from other fables, somewhat different from the old familiar ones. The play includes scenes of crazy fun as everybody does the "Rock, rock with old Aesop."

Shoshana Bean in Concert March 21st
She has had an amazing career on Broadway, in the original cast of Hairspray and as the first replacement for the green witch, Elphaba, in Wicked. She has had sold out concerts all over the world and had the honor to work with artists like Ariana Grande, Brian McKnight, Michael Jackson, Queen Latifah and David Foster to name a few. Here is what she says about her journey in the arts she has experienced.
"I am very certain that growing up in a school and a community that was able to provide a rich arts education gave me the foundation to, not only pursue the career I dreamed of, but also imbued in me the valuable skills that I still carry with me to this day. I am passionate about arts education and am committed to doing whatever I can to ensure that students today do not suffer from budget cuts and are provided the best education possible. That includes the arts."
What an honor to have an alum return home and give back in this way! Just a side note: Shoshana has performed at ACMA and with Dance West several times. She has worked with our choir students and brought members of Broadway casts to teach master classes at our school.
The Event is Wednesday March 21st. Doors open at 7:00 and Concert begins at 7:30 and features several special guests. For more information and tickets please go to

SafeOregon Tipline
Creating a safe learning environment is a critical part of helping each child achieve academic success. SafeOregon is a statewide school safety tip line that gives kids, parents, schools and their communities a way to report safety threats or potential acts of violence. SafeOregon will give students another path for communicating with school administration when school safety incidents occur.
How does SafeOregon work?
Students, parents, and school staff can access SafeOregon through the web form on the SafeOregon website, or by text, email, live call and mobile app.
Why is there a need for a tip line system?
The number one reason why students do not report is the fear of retaliation from their peers. SafeOregon can be accessed from the privacy of a phone, home computer or other Internet equipped device, eliminating the possibility of being identified by another student and thus, decreasing the likelihood that a school safety threat would go unreported.
For more information, please visit the District’s SafeOregon Tipline webpage.
Volunteers Are Important
Volunteers are an important part of the WE in the District’s goal of WE empower all students to achieve post-high school success. Thank you very much for sharing your valuable time and talents with students and staff.
As a reminder, for the safety and welfare of students and staff, ALL volunteer activities must be coordinated and tracked through myvolunteerpage.com, the District’s online volunteer management system. Volunteers must sign in and sign out through the volunteer computer located in the school front office.
To use the computer sign in, you need the username and password you created for the Volunteer and Background Check Application process. To retrieve, or reset either of these, go to myvolunteerpage.com and click on the “Forgot Username or Password” link. Your username and a temporary password will be emailed to you. To create a new permanent password, click on the “My Profile” tab on your myvolunteerpage.com home page. Please write down and save these for future use.
Parent/Guardian Volunteers, your Myvolunteerpage profile is NOT linked to your student(s) information and will not follow you to different locations. If you would like to add or remove a school from your profile, please send an email to update_volunteer_locations@beaverton.k12.or.us indicating the changes you would like made.
If you are no longer volunteering, you can also email update_volunteer_locations@beaverton.k12.or.us and indicate that you would like to remove your profile from the system.
Please note, your volunteer profile will be archived if you have not logged hours on your profile, or have not signed in through the volunteer computer for two (2) years after initially being cleared by the District to volunteer.
