ACADEMIC SUCCESS DURING A PANDEMIC
We all realize that our current reality has brought a lot of added stress into our lives. Our students are no different, whether they are in school or learning remotely. We learned last Spring that many of our students struggled learning in a virtual environment when compared to being in person. There is no difference right now. We completely respect everyone’s decision to have students learning from home via our hybrid model or some other form of online learning. We have set up guidelines for students and parents of hybrid students to follow to help ensure success. Unfortunately these guidelines are not always being followed and our students are not learning the curriculum that is being taught. Some of our students are becoming disengaged from their learning as they are at home and are either not logging in to their classes, or are logging in but are not sitting in front of their computer. In both of these cases the learning that is taking place is very minimal, if at all. We want our students to be successful but for our hybrid learners there are more responsibilities on the student and family to make sure the line of communication is open, students are in and engaged in their classes, work is being completed and assessments are being done on time and with academic honesty. Our students in the building are also needing more support, which our teachers and school counselors are providing. As mentioned before, we all want our students to realize success. During this time we are all stressed but we need to work together to help all of our students be successful. As difficult as it might be please check the IC Family Portal to make sure your students are doing their work and are being responsible for their learning. Even our seniors need some supports to take full advantage of their abilities.

STAFF AND STUDENT SUPPORT DAYS
Upcoming Dates and Information regarding Staff & Student Support Days
The school board has created days for students to get extra support from teachers. Teachers do have links for meeting with students virtually during Staff and Student Support days. In some cases the teachers reach out to the student and in other cases the students are reaching out to their teachers. Either method works as long as the students are getting the support they need. These days also allow our teachers to get caught up and to prepare for upcoming days/weeks. Please take advantage of these Staff and Student Support days by reaching out to your child’s teachers ahead of time and making sure your children have all of their work in by visiting the family portal (Campus Parent).

SAFELY HOLDING EVENTS FOR THE MENTAL HEALTH OF ALL
Safety Is a High Priority When Holding our Pines Events!
We have been very fortunate to be in a position to continue to offer extracurricular activities for our students. All of these activities are possible as a result of the safety changes we have implemented which includes limiting attendees, wearing masks and social distancing. Our athletes and students that have been performing are wearing masks during their competitions and performances also. We feel very fortunate to be able to have these events taking place as there are some schools that are not experiencing these great events.
Practicing for future performances.

Making Soup in Mrs. Garrison's Class
Pictured is Christian Kohlman preparing a Beef Vegetable Soup from scratch. Food labs develop student understanding of cooking techniques, improve their knife skills and prepare them for life after high school. Students selected their own recipes for this lab, cost them out shopping online at local grocery stores and then prepared the recipes the following class.

END OF SEMESTER
When Does MS Quarter 2 and HS Semester 1 end?
The end of the 2nd quarter and 1st semester is Thursday, January 21st. There are less than 3 weeks of school once we return from the holiday break. Please use the time over break to finish work that hasn’t been completed. The original last day of the 2nd quarter and 1st semester was Friday, January 22nd but that is now an teacher In-service day so there is no school on this day.
