LVMS Staff Newsletter
Excellence In Everything - Edition VII
Movers and Shakers
We did hire Jennifer McCaughey to work with the Functional Academic students as a para on Monday, so the timing was perfect.
Also, I'm not sure if this made it into a newsletter, but we did hire Jorjan Hendrix - one of our best substitutes - as a paraprofessional as well.
This will hopefully be my last staffing announcement of the year!!

Coming Up
Wednesday, February 26th
7:30 AM - Faculty Meeting in Coach Jackson's room; Paraprofessionals will need to be on duty in the cafeteria and lower gym.
During the day, we will have a Lockdown drill and then a fire drill after that.
Reminders for Lockdown drill - if you see me walking around school in a yellow safety vest, that means you need to initiate the lockdown. Call the front office - x2500, and then get your students to safety.
If you have not joined LVMS 2020 on Group Me, please do so before Wednesday. During the lockdown, make sure to communicate through that App. Report your name, location and "safe".

Just kidding...but not really!
Election Day
Speaking of elections...while this particular election may not have many hot button issues, I have a feeling that the next Presidential election may ruffle a few feathers. I wanted to address this now - be very, very cautious with any discussion of politics in your classroom. At no point should you support a candidate in front of your students, and at no point should you put down any candidate in front of your students. Also, just know that people do have very strong opinions that may not agree with yours, so be careful about assuming everyone agrees with you.
I respect what ever political leaning you may have, but it has no place in the classroom.
If you're dying to have a political conversation, swing by the office and I'll argue with you. I spent over 10 years as a debate coach directly contradicting whatever political persuasion my students had, just to make them think.
Sorry...I'm just getting ready for a bumpy few months!
Teacher Grants!
Dear Lago Vista ISD Teachers,
Are you interested in becoming a recipient of grant money to fund an inspiring idea you may have for your classroom, your department, your grade level or even for your campus? The Lago Vista ISD Education Foundation encourages all teachers to apply for the 2019-2020 Teacher Education Grants.
Grants will be awarded to teacher initiated programs or projects. The number of grant recipients depends on the amount of funds available each year. Individuals, teams of individuals or even a whole campus are eligible to apply.
Applications may be accessed at http://www.lagovistaisd.net/upload/page/0070/docs/GrantApp.pdf. Deadline to submit your application, with all approvals, is Tuesday, March 31, 2020. All guidelines, procedures and tips to write and apply for a grant are available with the application.
Since the formation of the Lago Vista ISD Education Foundation, we have issued grants totaling approximately $175,000. The foundation is motivated and focused on continuing to make funds available to all teachers each year. Our purpose is to encourage, facilitate, recognize and reward innovative and creative instructional approaches that align with the district and/or campus educational initiatives.
If you have any questions or need further information, please send an email to lvisdeftx@gmail.com.
Sincerely yours,
The LVISD Education Foundation Board
