Ferris ISD will resume classes tomorrow morning. All buildings are ready to go.

Monday is a B day.

There will be a small food pantry set up in the FJH parking lot from 5-6PM tomorrow evening. Fill out the form below and bring it with you or we can give you a blank form when you arrive.

If you need anything at all, please let us know. We are aware some may be without water, we will have water ready. If you need to shower, we have those available as well. Coach Sotak and Coach Peisen will be there ready to take you into the dressing rooms, if you need to shower before school.

If you need to make up your benchmark, you will get information via an email from Ms. Brightwell on Monday.

6th and 7th graders, scroll down for information on filling out your course cards.

Parents - Friday we are hosting a baseball and softball tournament. The back lot will be closed and all students will be required to be picked up in the football parking lot. Please do not pick your student up early, as this caused more issues.

Dear Students,

Your intelligence cannot be measured by a number. Your intelligence is defined by your willingness to learn, problem solve and try new things. You are more than a number. You are a brilliant person with unique ideas. Share them! Continue to learn. The numbers will come, as long as you put forth the effort daily!

Interested in AVID -

AVID recruitment has begun!

AVID, which stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination, is an academic program dedicated to helping students set and achieve goals by preparing them for college eligibility and success. AVID places academically average students in advanced courses with the support of the AVID Elective Class. Students are selected based on academic and social ability, college potential, desire, and determination.

We are so excited to be able to offer this outstanding program to students who are interested in improving their academic, social, and leadership skills as they prepare for and want to continue their education after high school.

Black History Month Shirts

To commemorate Black History, you are encouraged to wear Black History shirts every Friday in February. For Example Dr. Kizzmekia Corbett, the Black Scientist who led the development of the Covid vaccine, to Benjamin Banneker’s, a black architect who designed Washington D.C., Black Americans have contributed to the betterment of the United States in many, many ways.

We want you to wear shirts highlighting all the ways Black Americans have positively impacted our country. In the current environment, everybody has taken a side. However, at Ferris Junior High School, we take the stance that we are better together. We ask that the Black History shirts you wear exemplify and represent our school-wide beliefs and not a political stance. If you have questions about the appropriateness of your shirt, please ask Dr. Neely. Also, if you wear a Black History shirt, please see Mrs. Wilson, Mrs. Walker or Ms. Scott. We want to take a picture with you to highlight your participation in this celebration!

Reminder on TELPAS Writing

Writing is a focus across our district. Over the next couple of weeks, students will be writing in every content so that the district can determine what steps we need to take to improve writing instruction. We ask that students get lots of rest so that they are able to concentrate and showcase their writing ability.

The district has a focus on writing, Staring February 8, 2021, you will be writing in your core classes. Make sure to add lots of details and use all of the writing techniques you have learned in your classes. Most importantly, have fun showing off your writing skills. Once you finish writing, make sure you read over it to make sure it conveys your ideas in the way that you intended.

Black History Month Events:

Ferris Junior High School is proud to join our nation in honoring Black History Month. Throughout the month we will collectively recognize and celebrate the role that Black Americans play in the history of America. Black History Month celebrations started in February of 1926, and the month of February was picked to coincide with honoring both abolitionist/writer Frederick Douglass, and President Abraham Lincoln. Both leaders were instrumental in making America a wonderful nation.

Our mission at Ferris Junior High is to "embrace opportunities for growth", and we champion every opportunity to spotlight and celebrate individuals who embrace their opportunities.

As we kick off the month, you will get to participate in the following ways:

  • Interactive Black History Bulletin Board-Learn about as many individuals as possible
  • Students can participate in the making of the FJHS Black History documentary
  • In English and some Electives, you will explore Black people who contributed to American history
  • And much, much more

We will end the FJHS Black History Celebration with some fun school-wide activities in the last week of the month. Be sure to follow our FJHS Twitter and Instagram pages as we document the amazing happenings taking place across our campus to educate, celebrate, and reflect on Black History
