What's Up In The Classroom?

Reading and Writing-

Summarizing text has been our focus this week. Students have been reading a variety of texts (fiction and non-fiction) and summarizing them in 5 to 7 sentences. They are really getting good at it!

Spelling - You may have wondered why your child didn't have a spelling sort this week. We are taking a break from spelling sorts and moving into Greek and Latin roots. Students were divided up based on winter MAP scores. They will spend 20 minutes each day practicing Greek and Latin roots, word analysis and vocabulary, literal comprehension, interpretive comprehension, and literary response and analysis skills.

Math - We are working to turn fractions into decimals and vice versa this week. Students will have to be able to place these decimals on a number line, compare them, and turn them from decimals to fractions and fractions to decimals.

Science - We are almost done with our astronomy unit. Students have until Spring Break to finish up their modules and packet.

Wax Museum

It's almost time for our wax museum!! This fun event is this coming Tuesday (March 24th) from 5:30-6:30. Students should come in full costume attire. If they are here 5 to 10 minutes early, that would be perfect! There will be free popcorn for all who attend!! I would like them to bring their costumes on Tuesday so that I can take a video of them.

Health Talk

The "health talk" is almost here! It is one week from today (March 26) at 2:00. If you'd like to attend, you are more than welcome. The boys will be meeting in room (5) and the girls will be meeting in the library (story telling area).

Scoot Pads continue to be assigned at the beginning of each week, this allows students to work on them diligently on their own time. Many students are doing their part in taking their time on these and completing them appropriately. Please have your child show you his/her progress in Scoot Pad so you are aware of the time they are spending on each task, and can see where they are at. THANKS!
