Mrs. Joanna Rowe appointed K-6 Director Student Services

Mrs. Joanna Rowe was appointed the K-6 Director of Student Services at Thursday night’s Board of Education meeting. She is expected to start in her new role on November 28th, 2022. Mrs. Rowe has served in the Rochester City School District for the past two decades as a teacher and administrator.
“Thanks to a rigorous and inclusive process, I am extremely excited to welcome Mrs. Rowe to our team. She brings with her authentic experiences as both an educator and administrator specializing in special education,” said Dr. Aaron Johnson, Superintendent of Schools. “The ease at which she listens and collaborates with others was clear. Mrs. Rowe impressed us with her technical expertise and ability to pull in others to tackle complex situations and find supportive and productive solutions. She is student-first and a perfect complement to our district mantra of ‘All Means All.’ “
Mrs. Rowe has been the RCSD’s Associate Director of Special Education since 2019 and prior to that was a Coordinating Administrator of Special Education (CASE) in 2018-19. She also served in 2021 and 2022 as an Assistant Principal for an Extended School Year summer program. Mrs. Rowe taught Special Education in the RCSD from 2003-18. That included serving as a District Lead Teacher/Mentor from 2011-18. She also has been active as part of a Positive Behavior Support Committee, the School-Based Planning team and as an assistant director of school musicals in East Irondequoit for 12 years.
Mrs. Rowe graduated from Mercyhurst University with a Bachelor of Science in elementary/special education. She also earned a Master’s degree from Nova Southeastern University and Advanced Certificate in Educational Leadership from the University of Rochester.
A native of Jamestown, N.Y. she and her husband, Jason, live in West Irondequoit.
