Rose Glen Arrival and Dismissal
September 3, 2019
Happy First Day of School!
This Eagle Update will focus on arrival and dismissal as we have quite a lot going on at this very busy time of day for of us. Our goal is safety and your willingness to work with us will ensure that we are providing the safest procedures possible.
Safety First
Our first and most important goal is to keep our children safe during the school day. Therefore we are making adjustments to ensure that we are able to provide the safest learning environment possible. We will do our best to keep our school as safe as possible and we appreciate your support and your willingness to work together to create the safest learning environment for our students. Your role is critical to our success!
Please also know that we complete monthly safety drills to ensure that all staff and students are familiar with the procedures for each of our drills. We continue to work with our local officials to enhance safety practices and procedures. Please do not be surprised if you see an officer within the building or a squad car sitting outside the school. They are also committed to ensuring the safest school possible.
Arrival and Dismissal Highlights
The beginning and ending of the day is a busy time at Rose Glen Elementary! Below are our procedures for arrival and dismissal. Please remember that we have 500 kids entering and leaving the building each day. We each play an important role in maintaining safety and following the procedures. Please plan on dismissal taking an extra minute or two and remember that your patience and assistance with our procedures provides a safe environment. Below are a couple of key points to consider are listed below.
- Front Lot: This is a smaller lot given the size our school population. During arrival the front lot is reserved for our 4K families who drop their child off at the 4K Doors in the morning and pick their child up after school at the 4K Doors in the afternoon. Therefore, the front lot is reserved for our 4K families in the morning. 4K families should park and then walk their child to the 4K doors in the morning. In the afternoon 4K families should park and wait for their child outside the 4K doors.
- Additionally, we have approximately 10 busses unloading in the morning as well. If you are dropping your child off in the morning then you should be utilizing Walker's Circle on the side of the building. We understand that there might be a time when you need to come in the office or drop something off at school. We just ask that you utilize Walker's Circle if you consistently drop your child off in the morning.
Drop-Off:
All students should go around to the playground for morning supervision. Drop-off should occur at Walkers Circle. The office doors will be locked and adults will need to be buzzed into the front if there is a need to get into the building. If a parent or family member is dropping something off then the item can be dropped off at the office. ALL INDIVIDUALS MUST BE BUZZED IN. PLEASE DO NOT PROP THE DOOR OPEN AND LET ANYONE IN AFTER YOU ARE ALLOWED ACCESS.
Pick-Up:
Families must utilize Walkers Circle for pick-up if their child is not taking the bus home at the end of the day. Moving forward families will not be allowed to congregate in the foyer and/or office area at the end of the day. Starting this year the doors will remain locked after school and all guests inside the building must be buzzed in for a specific reason (teacher meeting, picking up from Cool School, etc.) This will ensure that the building is secure for 24 hours a day and this allows us to more accurately monitor who is coming in and out of the building.
Please be mindful that we have almost 500 kids that we are responsible for at the end of the day. We work diligently to ensure that all get to the right location. If you need to change your child’s pick-up arrangements then please provide us with adequate time to ensure that the changes can occur. Please do not call the office at the end of the school day (after 3:00) to try and change plans. It is preferred that a note is sent to the teacher in the morning (email or written) so that this change can occur without difficulty. When numerous phone calls come in after 3:00 this makes it very difficult to connect with each teacher in a timely manner. We understand that unique circumstances can arise and we are more than happy to assist. However, when the office is getting flooded with multiple calls each day at the end of the day then it becomes more challenging to effectively and efficiently connect with teachers to ensure that a child goes where you need them to go. Your help and support with this is greatly appreciated and will help for the end of the day to go smoothly for all!
School Day:
All visitors must be buzzed in and have a purpose for being in the building. All visitors must first report to the office. Visitors SHOULD NOT go directly to a classroom or other part of the building. All visitors must sign-in and sign-out of the building and this will occur at the office. Additionally, if a parent or family member is dropping something off (lunch, iPad, assignment, etc.) then this will occur at the office and the office will ensure that the item gets to the appropriate location. If you are arriving late to school we ask that you drop your child off at the office and we will ensure that they get to their classroom. If you are picking your child up please come to the office and we will call for your child to come up to the office to be picked up. There should not be any reason for you to go down to your child’s classroom unless you are scheduled to volunteer or have a scheduled meeting with the teacher. Following these procedures will allow us to have a strong sense of who is in the building and their purpose for being in the building.
Lunch Visits:
If you are visiting your child for lunch it is required that you sign-in and sign-out for this special visit. CELL PHONE USE IS PROHIBITED IN THE LUNCHROOM. This includes taking calls, texting, and/or taking photos. You will kindly be asked to leave the lunchroom if the above behaviors are seen. Please do not be offended as the lunch assistants are just following the procedures. If you need to take a call or send a text, then please leave the lunchroom.
Considerations:
The start of the day and the end of the day are extremely busy times for our office and our teachers. Therefore, we asking for your assistance in creating the smoothest possible day possible for all of us.
PARKING LOT
General Drop-Off Procedures:
All cars should enter through the ENTRANCE ONLY to drop children off.
There is NO PARKING IN WALKERS’ CIRCLE. It is intended for fluid drop-off of children. Please exit quickly and cautiously. Be mindful that others are waiting to drop-off and unnecessary stopping causes delays and interferes with the purpose of Walkers Circle.
Cars can exit and turn left from the left lane or turn right from the right lane. NO U-Turns, no Y-Turn, no backing up and out through the entrance, or using the neighborhood cul-de-sac. Traffic either goes right or left out of the circle.
Children should use the sidewalk of Walkers’ Circle to walk to the hill. No children should be seen leaving the car from the driver’s side of the car. All children exiting the car should leave from the passenger side of the car.
Cars only use the right side of the Walkers’ Circle.
No cars should use the left lane of Walkers’ Circle to park or drop-off children. This lane will be open so that cars can safely pull into the left side for left turn exiting purposes.
No parking on Brookhill Drive that runs parallel to Walkers’ Circle (the grassy part of the Walkers’ Circle). This will allow cars turning both left and right to have a clear view of oncoming traffic. Cars that park next to grass area closest to the Walkers’ Circle create a blindspot. Therefore, moving forward we would like to reduce this risk and make this a No Parking Zone.

Do not park in the neighborhood cul-de-sac. There are already signs posted and we need to adhere to these posted signs out of respect for our neighbors.

As you use Walkers Circle, it is important to be mindful of keeping the flow going. Drive forward as cars exit. With the left lane open for traffic, then cars should be able to navigate safely and easily out of the Circle. No student will be allowed to enter or cross the circle to get in a vehicle if the vehicle is parked in the left lane.
It is important that cars do not park at the entrance of the hill on Brookhill. This is critical to keeping flow into the circle moving. If a car cannot get into the Circle because another car has chose to park, then the whole flow of the Circle is stopped or slowed down. With the changes we should anticipate that there might be a longer line up Brookhill to get into the Walkers Circle. As kids are picked up in the Circle, then cars will be able to enter from Brookhill to also pick up.
Anticipate that it might take a few extra minutes. A lot of thought has been put into how we can create the safest pick-up possible. Remember that the ultimate goal is child safety. Patience is key during this time of day.
