Social Studies News
7th Grade Texas History - This week in Texas History we are exploring the era of the American Civil War. Students will learn the causes, key figures, and create a timeline of Texas secession. We will conclude the week by giving students the opportunity to experience the differing points of view of the people who lived through this era in an engaging computer program.
8th Grade U.S. History - Students have just wrapped up the Era of the Jefferson & Madison Presidencies, which include major milestones such as the Louisiana Purchase and the War of 1812. In the coming days, students will witness the country move into a single party system, because after the War of 1812 the Federalist party ceased to exist. This time period is known as the Era of Good Feelings. With this era it brings forth the innovation and invention during the American Industrial Revolution, the rise of the U.S. as a world economic force and the Monroe Doctrine. This period of U.S. History shows the perseverance of the American spirit and the foreshadowing of issues the nation will face in the future.
