Greetings Westwood Families,
Welcome to summer! This is the final newsletter for the 2020-21 school year. We did it. Today, I simply want to express my gratitude to our students, staff and community for this year.
Students, you have gained many skills through this year. Your flexibility and the ability to live through constant change has been a life-long lesson and skill that will continue to serve you well.
Staff, I want to thank you for the commitment to your work this year. You supported our students through the multiple learning models and constantly keeping the focus on the needs of our students.
Spring Lake Park Schools community, I know the constant change, the challenges of e-learning, and all of the COVID-19 protocols have not been easy nor perfect. I’m grateful we have been able to end the year with as much “normalcy” as possible, and I’m so optimistic for the fall.
Parents, thank you for all you have done to support your child this year and to help make the year a success. We could not have done it without your support.
Finally, congratulations to all of our grade 8 Award Winners for this school year. Westwood has put together a little presentation to recognize their great efforts. Awards will be mailed home or passed out in classrooms on the last day of school.
I hope you all have a summer that is a time of reflection, joy, relaxation and rejuvenation spent with friends and family. Our students (and staff) deserve a break and some summer fun. I will be enjoying a trip to California with my family, watching my kids play volleyball, and spending time reflecting on the year and planning for the fall.
Look for August communications with information on the start of the school year. We are looking forward to a fresh start on September 7, which will be here sooner than we think.
With gratitude and best wishes for your summer,
Tom Larson
Principal

Face masks will not be required in Spring Lake Park Schools buildings beginning Monday, June 14. This includes summer school, camps and clinics, athletics and other summer programming. The one exception is masks continue to be required for Learning Ventures (child care) students and staff until July 1, 2021, or until Minnesota hits 70% vaccination rate
We are following updated guidance from Minnesota Department of Health and Minnesota Department of Education. Minnesota Department of Health continues to recommend masks for unvaccinated people as well as three or more feet of physical distancing.
We remain committed to safe learning at school this summer and as we plan for the fall. A summary of our current health and safety plans and learning models can be found on our COVID-19 web hub.
Input, feedback and questions throughout the year have helped shape our plans and maximize safe, in person learning at school. To share questions or comments about the latest update to our safe in person learning plans, please email communications@district16.org.
