Description
The leopard, a mammal, is the smallest of the four 'big cats'. It has short legs, but a long body and a large skull. Most of the time leopards are light colored, with dark spots all over their bodies. They have those to blend in, as they hide up in the trees. Leopards are carnivores, they can weigh from 65 - 155 lbs.
Adaptations
The leopard has adapted very much over time. This mammal can live in almost any habitat, from forests to deserts, rain to dry. Living a secretive life, the fascinating cat hides up in the trees, to blend in for secret attacks.
Habitat
The leopard can be found in most habitats within its range. Most of the time, they are in trees, to avoid lions and hyenas. They also stalk their prey from up in the trees. They can be found in the wild, in places like Africa, Central Asia, India and China.
Food Chain
Being part of the cat family, is a carnivore. You could find it eating sheep, boar, mammals, antelope and more. It can consume up to half of its body weight, hauling it into branches of a tree. The amazing animals stalk their prey from the trees, blending in with the leaves for a surprise attack. Leopards are strong in swimming, making it easier to find food.

The leopard population is dropping rapidly, an estimated 500,000 remaining worldwide. Back in the 60's and 70's, hunting for fur was a major decrease in their species. In more recent times, trapping and poisoning by farmers. Habitat loss and the decline in population of prey are major reasons. Humans are aware of this issue, and even though they are listed and protected, they still are still endangered.
