WHAT'S HAPPENING IN THE CLASSROOM??
- Homework: Students need to complete their homework bingo sheet and math problem (yellow paper). Please have your child return their homework in their orange folder by next Friday 9/20.
- Innovation: Innovation Block 1: Week 2. Students will be with Mrs. Stocker learning about digital citizenship and how to be respectful digital citizens.
- Language Arts -Please click here for the Unit 1 Parent Letter to see how you can continue the conversation about government at home. We will continue our unit Government for the People and continue to focus on the essential question: Why do People Participate in Government? This week students will read an informational text called "It's My Right". The text focuses on key people in history who fought for their rights such as Alice Paul, Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr. The reading skills we will work on are identifying key details, summarizing, cause and effect and making inferences. Additionally, students will be comparing and contrasting how each person fought for their rights.
- Math -Unit 1! The big concepts of this unit include addition, subtraction, rounding, graphing and place value/number sense. For more information about this unit, please read the Parent Letter. This week we will be focusing on the different addition and subtraction strategies with the goal of being able to use at least two different strategies to solve math problems. Students will be using the math programs dreambox and Khan Academy to strengthen their understanding of math concepts and application of the skills they are learning.
- Writing -Students will finish up their letters and begin to write an informational paragraph about the actions people took to end segregation laws in the South.
- Spelling- The spelling pattern for this week is words with the long a sound. Students will complete a variety of activities to practice these patterns and apply them in their own writing. The spelling words for this week are favored, explained, separate, plain, became, swayed, raised, and vain.
- Vocabulary- Students will be able to use reference materials to build their vocabulary. They will show their understanding of the words by using them in a sentence during collaborative conversations and in writing. Our vocab words include predicted, volunteers, amendment, inspired, boarded, bold, organized and released.
