Principal's Message
Dear Georgetown Middle School Family,
As we approach the end of our first 9 weeks and the holiday season, we would like to take the time to step back and appreciate the things we are thankful for in our lives. At Georgetown Middle School, we are truly thankful for all your support. We are also thankful for our students and staff and for the great things they are doing each day.
It’s hard to believe we are one-quarter of the way through the school year. With the grading period ending, our communication with you is vital. This month we will have virtual parent conferences. It is important that you make time to speak with your child’s teachers to discuss his or her progress.
In conclusion, I wish you all a great month of November. If I can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to call. We are all in this together as the GMS family. I can be reached at shillman@gcsd.k12.sc.us and I am honored to serve as the principal of your child’s school.
Sincerely,
Seth C. Hillman
End of Grading Period
Tuesday, November 10 marks the end of the first quarter. As a school, we are noticing an increase in low/failing grades. We believe that most low grades are a result of missing work. We strongly suggest visiting your child's Google Classroom and PowerSchool to review their grades. In Google Classroom, you can go to the classwork section; there is a link at the top to view student work. Clicking this link will show you all completed, graded, ungraded, and missing work. Please note that some students are turning in blank assignments, so they may not show up as "missing" in Google Classroom. Please review all assignments that students have submitted to ensure completion. PowerSchool also gives you the most up to date grades for your student.
Report cards will be mailed home on Tuesday, November 17, 2020.
COVID-19 Precautions
We ask that you check your child’s temperature before they leave for school and if they have any COVID-19 symptoms keep them at home until those symptoms no longer are present. Please review the COVID-19 letter for more information.
GCSD has created a COVID-19 Dashboard with information about the number of students and staff who have been diagnosed with COVID-19, or who have been quarantined. This information is updated each school day.
Title I Parent Family Engagement Policy
A copy of the Title I Parent Family Engagement Policy is below. This policy outlines how Georgetown Middle school should engage with our stakeholders. If you would like to make a request to change any part of the GMS Title I Parent Involvement Policy, please submit the suggestion to the guidance department or submit through the online Suggestion Box.
After School Tutoring Program
Georgetown Middle School is implementing a Title I afterschool program, beginning Thursday, November 5 through Thursday, January 28, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Parents must provide transportation. This program is aimed at providing added assistance to students in reading and math to improve mastery of standards and scores on upcoming tests. Students will be instructed by certified math and reading teachers
There are still some spaces available. If you are interested please contact Ms. Langford at clangford@gcsd.k12.sc.us
