Overseas, in Afghanistan, a terrorist network called al Qaeda (al kye-dah) allied with the Taliban Government. On September 11th, 2001 al Qaeda hijacked two planes and flew them into each of the Twin Towers in New York City. It was the most tragic event in U.S history and cost a total of 37 billion dollars to clean up. Thousands of people died. Family members, heartbroken. People were dubious at the fact that that actually happened. America needed vengeance.
The United States Government asked the Taliban Government to hand over the leader of al Qaeda, Osama Bin Laden. They refused which ultimately led to the war against Afghanistan and Osama Bin Laden's becoming of the FBI's most wanted person.
The war lasted from 2002 to 2008, but there are still The reason for the war against Afghanistan was that the United States wanted to overthrow the Taliban Government and rebuild the government, also to capture and kill Osama Bin Laden.
