Message from the Principal

Good Afternoon Dragon Family:

I hope everyone had a restful and Happy Thanksgiving week. We are grateful for the time off and opportunities to see friends and family. On behalf of the entire PHS staff, we are also grateful for the support of our parents and community. This is truly an aspect of Purcell that sets it apart from other schools and communities.

One of my core visions for PHS is to incorporate service learning opportunities for all students. This is an opportunity to combine traditional pieces of school: curriculum, learning, and assessments with projects that give back to your school or community. It doesn't need to be complicated or time-consuming. For example, our Adulting class, led by Zoe Swift, spent an hour last week helping our custodians clean and prep the gym for a Friday night game. Our Leadership class, led by Krysta Matthews, has identified specific needs in our school and community and developed solutions and initiatives to meet those needs. Our Spanish club, led by Mayra Munoz, has delivered care packages to Senior Centers and our Police Department.

These opportunities and others like them help build and reinforce values that are well established in this community: service, kindness, and empathy. Most importantly, I think it's helping students realize the true purpose of civic engagement. Too often today I think we've mistaken civic engagement to be yelling at each other on social media or taking sides in divided political debates. Service learning projects help students realize the real value of getting involved in your community. Hopefully it will encourage students to pursue careers that are based on serving your community.

I'm proud of our teachers and students leading this effort.

Katie Clayton: November Staff Member of the Month

Congratulations to Katie Clayton our PHS November Staff Member of the Month. Katie is a special education teacher and sets an example everyday for kids with her kindness, positivity, and her commitment to serving kids. We are so proud of her. Please read tributes below from her colleagues:

Katie works hard in the classroom to give her students a good education, while multitasking with meetings, resource room needs and emotional support for her students.

She did a superb job on the Veteran's Day Assembly. Everything ran smoothly, the students knew exactly what to do and it went off without a hitch. I was so impressed and proud for her.

Katie has brought tremendous change to the Sped department. The children in that room are thriving and she deserves every bit of recognition!

Congratulations Carolyn Anyong!

Carolyn is our PHS Assistant Principal. She recently completed the nearly two year Lead to Succeed Cohort through the Oklahoma State Department of Education. This program helps further build the leadership capacity of individuals throughout our state. This program includes intensive study and time commitments outside of your regular job. This is quite an accomplishment for Carolyn.

Carolyn's primary responsibilities at PHS include curriculum leadership, student behavior, and attendance. She has quickly proven to be a valuable resource throughout our school and I appreciate her work ethic and commitment to kids.

Welcome (back!) to PHS Mindy Wells

We are thrilled to welcome back Mindy Wells to PHS. She will assume her duties this week as a special education English resource teacher. We were fortunate to hire Mindy as we had an unexpected staff opening in the middle of the year. Mindy will be a huge asset to our school and to our kids. We are excited for her return.

PHS After School Tutoring Begins this Week

Our after school tutoring program will begin this week and last through Spring Break

When: Every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30-5:00 PM

Where: PHS (Stefanie Renfro's classroom)

Who: Any student may attend but our primary focus is English and Math

Michael O'Neal (math department chairperson) and Stefanie Renfro (electives department chairperson) will staff our after school program for the remainder of the year. Students can also attend tutoring to make up absences. Snacks and drinks will be provided. Please contact Carolyn Anyong, assistant principal, @ with any questions.

Semester Test Fall Schedule

All PHS teachers are required to administer comprehensive semester exams at the end of the fall and spring terms. By policy, semester tests account for 20 percent of a student's grade. This is significant to a student's grade and of course we want all students prepared for these important end of semester exams.

Revamped PHS Website

I would encourage all parents to visit our revamped PHS Website:

I would like to thank David Hilger for his assistance in this process. We have worked hard over the last few weeks to make it more user friendly and accessible for parents. You will notice it has several links to items that are important to visitors and hopefully will create a one-stop shop for information and resources.

Parchment: Online Transcripting

Online Transcripts

We are excited to announce we have partnered with Parchment to provide students past and present the ability to send e-transcripts to the schools and organizations of their choice. This is a free service to all users. This service is currently live and students can order transcripts online or make a request for our school registrar to send transcripts electronically to colleges of their choice.

How does it work?

What's Happening @ PHS

I have to give a shout-out to PHS Superintendent Dr. Sheli McAdoo (she won't like this!). Our home opener basketball games were an exciting and eventful night. Lot's of intensity and great environment for basketball. From an administrator's standpoint it doesn't come without some challenges. I'm grateful to have a hands-on superintendent not afraid to grab a broom and help when needed. You would not see this everywhere!

Exciting season openers for Dragon Hoops!

Dragon basketball season opened the season with a 4-0 jv/varsity sweep over strong Silo teams. Our girls varsity team defeated the highly ranked Silo Lady Rebels with a thrilling 46-43 win. Our boys won in dominating fashion over Silo. This looks to be an exciting basketball season for both squads.

GoFan Online Ticketing

New this year, Purcell High School is pleased to announce that we will be using GoFan for mobile ticketing for athletic events. This will begin with the upcoming basketball season. Fans can purchase tickets online through the Purcell High School GoFan page or by presenting a card or mobile payment option at the ticket gate. All major credit cards are accepted, along with Apple Pay. We will still accept cash payments at the gate for early season games, along with the opportunity to purchase season passes. The cost for a cash ticket and online ticket will be $5.

The new ticketing policy allows Purcell High School to operate a more efficient and professional ticket gate while creating a safer and enhanced fan experience. Buying tickets online allows fans to access and share tickets easily by email or text without standing in line.

Fans are encouraged to buy tickets online prior to reaching the facility. For your convenience, signage will be set up at the venue to help fans navigate an online purchase quickly and easily.

We understand this is a change and there will be bumps along the way. However we think our fans will quickly see how easy it is to buy a ticket, share a ticket with family, and quickly access an event. I've shared some helpful links below which will provide extra help with the process.

It's very important all parents have access to parent portal.
