The Cutting Edge
Edgelea Newsletter July 2020
Greetings!
I hope you are safe, healthy, happy and enjoying summer with your families. This has certainly been an unusual summer, not only in Lafayette, but throughout the United States and the world for that matter.
I will apologize for the lack of communication from Edgelea regarding the plans for the 2020-2021 school year, but the information is constantly changing and I have not been given the green light to share any plans with parents. If you read the local paper or watch the news, you are most likely aware that the Lafayette School Board will be voting on a plan this Monday, July 20th regarding the reopening of schools. This meeting will be held at Sunnyside Intermediate School at 7:00 pm and is open to the public. Hopefully decisions will be made, plans in place, and information will be distributed by Tuesday, July 21. You can always google Lafayette School Corporation to get to our district home web page.
Hola!
Registration
Our tentative plans are to open online registration on Tuesday, July 21. Families who were part of LSC for the 2019-2020 school year, may register online. You do not have to come to a school and register. However, families that are new to LSC or have incoming kindergarten age students are encouraged to attend registration.
Currently, as of today, our registration schedule is as follows:
July 27, 2020 9:00-4:00 pm
July 28, 2020 12:00-7:00 pm
July 29, 2020 9:00-4:00pm
July 30, 2020 12:00-7:00 pm
Our current families are welcome to attend registration, in person, if that is preferred. Please consider wearing masks. We will do our best to provide opportunities for social distancing.
School Supplies
Please see the lists below. We know the school supply lists are long and there are many items on each list. We also understand that some families, due to COVID-19, may not be able to afford all items on this list. Please know that we appreciate whatever you might be able to send with your child. Our teachers will have extra supplies on hand and will provide additional supplies to students in need. With that being said, the one item we do not have extras of are the ear buds/headphones. It would be very helpful if each child could bring in one set as listed on the supply list.
Please click on the links below to view the general education school supplies lists and the HA (High Ability) school supplies lists. Children in the cluster classes should follow the general education school supplies lists.

New Parking Lot...New Procedures!
If you have driven by Edgelea, you may have noticed our new, big, fabulous parking lot. We are so happy to be able to safely accommodate our parents and families especially during arrival and dismissal. Our new parking lot on the west side of the building will become the new area for cars who are dropping off students or picking students up at the end of the school day.
Our 18th street parking lot will be a staff parking lot and the new bus area.
Please see our procedures listed below.
Drop Off:
- Please enter our new lot off of Beck Lane between 7:45-8:20 am
- Stay to the right and follow the length of the lot to reach the school’s sidewalk.
- Students will then use the building entrances near cones 1 and 4 (on the map).
Dismissal/Pick Up:
- Please enter our new lot off of Beck Lane.
- Stay to the right and follow the length of the lot to reach the school’s sidewalk.
- Near the playground, a teacher will check your colored car tag with your child’s name and give you a designated cone.
- When the cars before you have left the cones, pull forward to your designated cone. Your student(s) will be waiting!
Helpful Hints for Pick Up:
- We are asking all parents to use the car line and refrain from parking. If you park, you will need to wait until the current car line is gone before you can exit as it can cause extra congestion.
- Once you have received your student(s), please do not exit the car line. In order to efficiently dismiss all of our students, we need to keep our cones filled ten at a time.
We look forward to using our new parking lot. Edgelea has high hopes that this will free up traffic on 18th street and allow us to safely and quickly load students into vehicles.
We understand that a new dismissal plan takes time to adjust and may have changes as we are entering an unforeseeable school year. We thank you for your patience and flexibility.
