Dear Parents and Guardians,
The 8th grade students will be taking the Illinois Youth Survey in January. The data from this survey is used to understand youth attitudes and behaviors that can impact student success. If you are interested in finding out more about the state survey, please click on Illinois Youth Survey.
The Emerson Variety show is Fri., Dec. 1st. There are two shows at 3pm and 7pm. Student tickets are free of charge. Tickets for parents and other guests are $7/each (CASH ONLY). Concessions will be available for purchase at both shows. We hope to see you there.
The SGA collected over 1,200 food items in their annual food drive. These items were delivered to the Maine Township Emergency Food Pantry prior to Thanksgiving. Items collected included: peanut butter, jelly, cake mixes, pasta, pasta sauce, rice, crackers, macaroni & cheese, and soup, as well as general paper products. The donations were greatly appreciated by the pantry.
Our Emerson staff is preparing for an exciting holiday assembly that will take place Fri., Dec. 22, 2017 at 1:50pm. Please mark your calendar. All parents are welcome to attend. Please be sure to contact the school office if you would like to attend so we can be sure to accommodate all of you.

Vision And Hearing
FROM THE SCHOOL HEALTH OFFICE
Students at Emerson Middle School have completed vision and hearing screening.
Parents/guardians of students who failed the vision screening criteria will be re-screened in approximately two weeks. Students may initially fail vision screening due to a temporary eye condition. You will receive notification of the need for professional evaluation if, at re-screen, the vision test is failed again. Parents/guardians of students who are presently under the care of a physician for glasses or other reasons will receive a request for a report from the eye professional for the child's school health record.
Students who fail the hearing screening are re-screened in approximately two weeks. Students may fail hearing screening because of respiratory or ear infections. Once these resolve, the child is usually successful in meeting the hearing screening criteria. If the problem persists, referral for a medical evaluation will be sent home.
