Principal's Letter

Dear Lake Windward Families,

I am excited that the PTO is able to host our first Family Fun Night at LWE in over a year and a half on Friday evening! The Movie Night will be held outdoors on the field in the back of the school. If you park in our front parking lot, you can use the sidewalk that cuts through our playground area to the field. You will want to be sure to bring your own chairs and blankets as well as a flashlight (or phone with light) and cash if you'd like to purchase snacks or beverages. I hope we get to see a lot of families on Friday night! :)

Please see the graphic below for more information. I want to say thank you to all of our PTO volunteers and families who support the PTO financially for making this event (and future events) possible!

Warm regards,

Julie Morris

Updated Covid Mitigation Strategies

At the beginning of September, FCS district leaders provided the following graphic to outline and communicate the continuum of Covid mitigation strategies that will be in place in Fulton County Schools depending on current Covid numbers. The Lake Windward ES community falls into the 100 cases per 100,000 category on the chart at this time. In addition to the Covid mitigation strategies listed in the 100 cases per 100,00 row below, LWE is also continuing to have students seated every other seat in the cafeteria to allow for some social distancing while eating. Starting today, students will only be eating in the cafeteria (and not following an A/B schedule of cafeteria/classroom every other week). The latest epidemiology report from October 15th has Alpharetta at 133 cases per 100,000 over the last 14 days and Johns Creek at 135 cases per 100,000 over the last 14 days.

NEWS from the LWE PBIS Team

We were thrilled to get to celebrate the students whose names were pulled for earning a Cafe Gator Gram for the first quarter! Students are recognized for being respectful, responsible, and safe during their lunch time.

The Pop-Up Shop is also in full swing! All grade levels have had a chance to shop the pop-up shop so far, with the cart rotating through the various grade levels. Students have done a great job earning Great Gators throughout the school and they've enjoying saving them up to spend at the shop!

Morning Carpool/Arrival Times

Morning carpool starts at 7:10 am. Please be aware that the tardy bell rings at 7:40 am. Our instructional day begins at 7:40 am. If you arrive after 7:40 am, you need to park your car and walk your child inside to get a tardy slip. We are having A LOT of families come right at 7:40 am and after. We need your help with getting your student(s) here earlier in order to be on time for morning routines and instruction.

**Please note that the staff assisting with carpool have to come inside at 7:40 am as they have students and other assigned responsibilities that they need to get to.**

Chris 180 is here for you!

If you would like your child to receive counseling during the school day, please reach out to our our Chris 180 partner.

FCS Late Start Days

As you probably know, there are six "Late Start Days" listed on the Fulton County Schools district calendar (one of them is October 25th). The superintendent added these days to give teachers some additional time to review student data and to make instructional decisions in collaboration with colleagues. At Lake Windward ES, these days will not impact students' arrival times. Our buses, carpool, and breakfast schedule will remain the same as always on these "Late Start Days". Teachers will be in meetings on a rotational basis and we will provide coverage for the teachers while in meetings. Therefore, we'd like all students to arrive by 7:40 am, as usual, on these dates.

Schools have some autonomy with how this will work. Therefore, if you have children who attend other Fulton County Schools, their schools may give you different instructions for these days.

Please reach out to our front office if you have any questions.
