Thank You So Much!

Thank you so much for your support of our recent book fair! It was so wonderful to see all of our preschoolers so excited about all of the books! This was our first time working with Usborne Books for our fair, and it was a huge success! We have been able to purchase many new books for our school with the profits of the fair. Also, because our fair was more successful than ever before, we are excited to announce that we also purchased some books that we will donate to the library at Downtown Academy here in downtown Athens! Thank you for your participation and generosity in purchasing books at the book fair!

Spotlight on Happy Feet

We are so excited to have Ms. Alyssa Fowler leading Happy Feet this year! Prior to this year Alyssa has been teaching our 5-day-2s class. All of our 2-year-old, 3-year-old, and PreK classes participate in Happy Feet once a week for 20 minutes in our church gym. Happy Feet is a musical-movement program that helps children improve balance and targets motor skills, hand-eye, foot-eye coordination, and body space/awareness. Be sure to ask your children about all of the fun they are having in Happy Feet!

October is Fire Safety Month!

At the Weekday Preschool, we talk about firefighters as community helpers we can trust in an emergency. We conduct fire drills regularly so that teachers and children will be ready if that fire alarm sounds. There are ways you can prepare at home too. Below are some tips from

Top Tips

  1. Working smoke alarms reduce the chances of dying in a fire by nearly 50 percent. They are a critical first step for staying safe, but in order to be effective, they have to be working properly. For the best protection, install smoke alarms on every level of your home and in every sleeping area.
  2. Teach kids never to play with matches and lighters. Make a habit of placing these items up and away from young children.
  3. Create and practice a home fire escape plan with two ways out of your house in case of a fire. Get a stopwatch and time how fast your family can escape. The kids will love it.
  4. Children should know how to respond to the sound of a smoke alarm. Teach them to get low and get out when they hear it. A child who is coached properly ahead of time will have a better chance to be safe.
  5. Use common sense in the kitchen. Limit distractions when cooking and don’t leave a hot oven or stovetop unattended.

Square 1 Art is coming soon!

Square 1 Art is a preschool tradition we love! In a few weeks, a customized order form will come home to you featuring a work of art handmade by your child. Many wonderful items are available for order with this one-of-a-kind work such as key chains, coffee mugs, porcelain trivets, and more. This is great way to go ahead and get gifts for grandparents, other family members, and special friends for Christmas!! If you would like to see the types of products that are available, you can go to anytime! Order packets will come home on October 12, and orders will be due on October 25.

What does this fundraiser support? Profits from our Square 1 Art fundraiser help us with equipment purchases and maintenance for our classrooms as well as support our need-based scholarship program.
