I have really enjoyed meeting with grade levels and will reschedule soon with second, third, and fourth grades.
4th Grade- we need to identify more students for CoolTable as I only got 2 responses from the first group. We need 13 more to get to our 15 students needed. I have heard great things happened with the first group of 5th graders in Cool-Table. Jennifer has the second round of paperwork, but an email to the first group could increase our numbers.
I am constantly impressed with you, the teachers, and your dedication to giving students your best every day. The office staff is top-notch, Marco is passionate about reading and coaching, and Brian is all over the place keeping the ball rolling in multiple ways. You work as a team. I want to support you in any way I can these months I am with you!
For the next Collaborative Tuesday on October 26 at India Hook Elementary, you will need the following.
Kindergarten:
Please bring your Lucy Calkins Unit 2 book and map(or plan) of how you will teach this unit. Also, bring a copy of the rubric for Kindergarten Narrative Writing. If you have done "On Demand" writing and scored it with the rubric, please bring a few pieces to share.
First Grade:
Please bring any and all ideas of how you address Tier 2 and Tier 3 needs of your children. With no extra people, what skills, games or ideas do you have for ELA and Math?
Second grade would like to use the collaborative planning on October 25th to share literacy ideas that teachers are using during guided reading. In other words, what kinds of differentiated activities are you using with the rest of the class while you are teaching guided reading groups? Bring your ideas, examples, flip charts, etc.
Third grade would like to discuss how each school is using Discovery Education Techbook with science standards. Assignments being created, etc...

Recycle Bowl
Each year all schools in Rock Hill District #3 participate in the nationwide K-12 recycling competition. The Recycle-Bowl competition started this past Monday, October 17, and runs until Tuesday, November 15, which is America Recycles Day. We have an exciting 4 weeks ahead of us, so we are encouraging our families to join us in this effort. You may bring any of the items listed below to school so that we can add your recycling to ours. Please remember that food containers must be rinsed out so that we don’t attract insects or worse. Just bag the items and send it with your child. We do ask that items not go directly into our blue recycling bins so that we have time to sort through donations. The City of Rock Hill is tracking our weights and will report them for us. Thank you for participating!
You may recycle the following materials:
· Aluminum Cans
· Cartons (Milk and Juice)
· Glass Bottles and Jars
· Plastic Bottles and Tubs
· Steel Food Cans
· Cardboard
· Magazines
· Newspapers
· Office Paper
Veteran's Day Program
We need your help. Please ask your students to invite any Veterans they or their parents know to attend. Grandparents flew in from many states last year just to attend this event. Also, staff and students are encouraged to wear either Red, White, and Blue attire or Camo attire for the day. One student from each class who displays the most Red, White, and Blue or Camo attire will get to eat lunch with a Veteran. Thank you Dr. Beard, Mr. Shevy, Ms. Nassy, Sra. Silva, Mrs. Rutledge, Mrs. Phillips, and Mrs. Holliday for all your hard work in organizing this most special event.
The times for each grade level to attend are:
8:30 - 9:30 - Kindergarten and 3rd
9:30 - 10:30 - 1st and 4th
10:30 - 11:30 - 2nd and 5th

PBIS Update
We will not be voting this week for PBIS. I will use the results from last week to announce our PBIS winners. Voting will resume next week. I apologize for the delay, but a shortened week with grades being due kept all of us very busy. On a positive note, we had the fewest office referrals this week since the 3rd week of school. Keep up the outstanding work.
Science Update from Kim Massey
Another new kit through adoption is Push, Pull & Go. It is a 2nd grade kit and will be used 2nd nine weeks.
Please advise teachers of grades 3-5 that the benchmark window will close on Oct. 14. They should be finished teaching the unit and students should complete the assessment by the end of the school day on Oct. 14. Please remind teachers that the benchmark is a formative assessment. It is cumulative, but not intended to be used as a gradebook score. They should use the benchmark data to help them decide on the next steps for science instruction.
The 3rd and 4th grade Spanish and French benchmarks in Canvas in the same course as the English benchmark. (Yes, 4th grade is there now!) The Spanish and French are there as PDF files to be completed on a Scantron.
On Monday, Oct. 24 at 2:45pm, a conference call through the RHSD 4th grade Master Course will be held. The title of the conference is What 4th grade teachers need to know about SCPASS-Science.
On Thursday, Oct. 27 at 2:45pm, a conference call through the RHSD 5th grade Master Course will be held. The title of the conference is What 5th grade teachers need to know about SCPASS-Science.
