The Patriot Way
October 30, 2023 Vol. 11
Front Office Notes
Patriot Nation,
A full week back after break and believe it or not we are closing in on the end of the semester! With November 1 being this Wednesday that means we are jam-packed with events and breaks. Veteran's Day is Friday November 10th. It will be very similar in structure to last year. Staff is tying up loose ends and getting the program ready to go. November 6th is the deadline to submit pictures/slideshow information to the school. Any submissions on November 7th or later cannot be accepted. Our staff members working on the slideshow devote careful planning and symmetry when creating the slideshow. This process takes a few days to ensure correctness and aesthesis.
Reminder that Halloween is Tuesday, October 31. This means that dress code rules still apply. There is no planned dress up/costume day. If students wear something in the spirit of the season, there are no masks, face coverings, blankets, props, etc. We enjoy having a good time and participating in seasonal fun.
We have some important deadlines that are coming up this week as well. Senior Interview Day, class yearbook photos, and the FAFSA event are all on Thursday, Nov. 2, with cap and gown ordering information becoming available on Friday.
Winter sports are beginning official practices and Thanksgiving Break is right around the corner. With only 37 school days until the end of the semester (29 instructional days + 5 days Review Week + 3 days of finals), academic standing in each class needs to be checked early. Students need to be sure they are in contact with teachers and communicating regularly to ensure they are in good shape heading into finals for the semester.
The Junior High finished up great performances of their play, The Enchanted Bookshop, this week. Congrats to cast and crew on a great show!
As always, reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
Best Regards,
Seeger Administration

Cold and flu season is upon us. With that being said, I wanted to include some tips to help your child stay as healthy as possible through this season. The tips and resources below provided from the CDC will help you learn about actions you can take to protect yourself and others from flu and help stop the spread of germs.
- Avoid close contact.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick. When you are sick, keep your distance from others to protect them from getting sick too. - Stay home when you are sick.
If possible, stay home from school when you are sick. This will help prevent spreading your illness to others. Sick students with vomiting and/or a temperature of 100.4 or higher will be sent home. They cannot return until they are fever free and are not vomiting or having diarrhea for 24 hours without the use of medications such as Tylenol or Ibuprofen. - Cover your mouth and nose.
Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. It may prevent those around you from getting sick. Flu viruses spread mainly by droplets made when people with flu cough, sneeze, or talk. - Clean your hands.
Washing your hands often will help protect you from germs. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub. - Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth.
Germs can be spread when a person touches something that is contaminated with germs and then touches his or her eyes, nose, or mouth. - Practice other good health habits.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces at home, work or school, especially when someone is ill. Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food.
As always if your child is ill please call and notify the front office of your child's absence.
Self-Talk
To break the ice, we started with some simpler questions, talking about hobbies and sandwiches. She told us that her top three activities are reading, hiking, and relaxing on the beach. As for her favorite sandwich, she claimed that it was a toss-up between Reubens and Monte Christos.
Moving on, we spoke about television. I learned that, given the opportunity to change any one thing about a show, Mrs. Such would make it so that Friends didn’t end with Monica and Chandler’s adoption, but had another season instead.
To finish it up, I asked Mrs. Such what piece of advice she would give to her younger self. Her answer was as follows: “Stick college out the first time, it is so difficult going back as an adult. Don't rush into growing up. Paying bills is no fun!”

Blake Ford
Blake Ford is the Seeger Jr. High Student of the Week chosen by Mr. Wetz.
Blake talks about his favorite part of Mr. Wetz’s class.
“The best part of Mr. Wetz's class is when we watch videos in the morning and the time he gives us to get our homework done.”
Blake then says how it feels to be student of the week.
“How it feels to be student of the week is kind of cool. I've really never been student of the week.”
Mr. Wetz talks about what he looks for when nominating students for Student of the Week.
“I look for students who are helpful, kind and courteous. Having good manners and respecting others is something I admire in students.”
Mr. Wetz then says something Blake does well in his class.
“Blake has been very helpful with his classmates and especially a new student who just moved to our school. He volunteered his time and energy to make the new student comfortable and feel welcome to Seeger Junior High. This, to me, showed great character and was worthy of a Student of the Week nomination.”
Congratulations to Blake and good luck to anyone else wanting to be chosen for Student of the Week.
Band and Choir Preparing for Christmas
Across the hallway, Mrs. Haley and band members were working in small groups on "Polar Express" musical pieces. The different sections of the band broke off to practice parts to ensure the harmony of the music is on point.
Mrs. Brost's 8th Grade Science
Can you fit ONE piece of paper around a whole science class?!?
8th Grade Science classes recently began the Foundations of Chemistry unit. Students have been studying matter, chemical and physical properties, and chemical and physical changes of matter. This week students were challenged to get one piece of paper around the entire class. Students had to create one continuous circle of paper (no tape, staples, glue, tying allowed!) Students worked to change the shape of the paper to fit everyone inside! Classes then discussed that a change in shape, size, or state of matter is a physical change.
Later in the week, students worked to create a chemical change of matter. Groups combined various acidic liquids with different types of milk to form a precipitate. Students looked for signs of a chemical change and made observations on smell, color change, bubble formation, and new substances that were created.

The minimum requirements to be nominated for Scholar-Athlete of the Month are:
- No discipline referrals
- Must be an honor-roll student (all grades 80% or better)
- Made a significant impact during games, practices, and/or meetings for the month
- Must participate in a JV/Varsity sport

Any family with an athlete this year is asked to volunteer for 1 event.
We appreciate our community and all the volunteers! Due to the willing hands we donated over $10,000 in 2022/2023 for athletic jackets, scholarships, team meals, and team donations for all MSD of Warren County schools!
Cross Country--2023 Boys' and Girls' WRC Champs
Dessie Austin finished her High School Cross Country career at the top of her game. This past weekend, she went toe-to-toe with 250 of the fastest runners in the state of Indiana and came in 22nd place. Her time of 18:17 was one of her best times this year!
She started out strong and looked great through a majority of the race while holding on for a top 25 spot. This garnered her All-State recognition! She was also the top small school finisher in the state!
If XC was classed, she would have been a State Champ!
She had a great cheer group and felt the love from her teammates at multiple spots along the course. This was a tough race where a slow-down or speed-up of 10 seconds could change your position by 15-20 positions.
Adara Austin, Toby Cunningham, and Dessie Austin received Academic All-State honors for Cross Country. They met the minimum requirements of a 3.5 GPA and a 1200 SAT score (or 1140 PSAT). Competing at a high level and maintaining great academic standing requires discipline and dedication!
Football
Friday's 2nd round match-up with the Lewis Cass Kings was not a disappointment-scoreboard nor excitement! The opening kick-off was returned for TD by the Patriots to give an early 7-0 lead. After a few exchanged possessions and about 5 minutes off of the clock, the Patriot offense capitalized on a TD pass to go up 14-0. The second quarter would begin the chess match as multiple possession were traded between teams and no one could seemingly find the endzone. The Patriots would keep the Kings off of the board up until the last minute of the second quarter. A short run inside the 5 yardline trimmed the Seeger lead down to 14-8 heading into halftime. The Kings received the second half kick-off and orchestrated a drive that would result in score plus two to give the Kings a 16-14 lead with about 7 minutes left. The Patriots, feeling offended by the lead changed, marched down the field to take it back. The TD run put the score in favor of the Pats, 20-16. This 3rd quarter score ended up being the last score of the game. The Seeger defense held off great drives and attempts by the Kings in the 4th.
Seeger will host the visiting LCC Knights on November 3rd for the Sectional 34 Championship. Let's pack the stands, bring the noise, and support the boys on their way to a Sectional Championship! This is the first sectional championship game since 2020. The last title was in 2004.
