Carrillo Community Update
January 16 - 20
I hope you all enjoyed the day off in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
As a magnet school we take the charge to provide equal education opportunities to all students seriously, making Dr. King's dream closer and closer to full reality. As a kind campus, our next challenge is to continue to learn all we can about others, so that we can continue to create a world that is increasingly kind and increasing provides equal opportunities for all.
If you are interested in sharing Dr. King's famous "I Have A Dream" speech with your family, click the speech's name to visit the NPR page where you can listen and read this historic national address.
Kind Campus Update - The Benefits of Laughter
Laughter can be fun, silly, and create connection. It also carries many cognitive and health benefits, making it a great tool in our self-kindness practice. The Mayo Clinic confirms benefits including decreased blood pressure, reduced stress hormone levels, soothed tension, toned abdominal muscles, improved cardiac health and immune system, increased endorphins, and improved sense of general well-being. Additionally, laughter can help lessen stress, depression, and anxiety and may make you feel happier. It can also improve your self-esteem. While it is not healthy to ignore negative emotions, finding the right place for humor and laughter in our lives can help people remain resilient in the face of adverse circumstances. Professor George Bonanno notes, “Humor keeps negative emotions in check and gives us a different perspective, allowing us to see some of the bad things that happen to us as a challenge rather than a threat.” Giving yourself the time to let loose and laugh is great self-care!
