Principal Talk
Dear King Parents and Community,
Thank you, thank you, thank you for being active participants in your child's education! We recently wrapped up parent/teacher conferences and it was awesome to see the great turnout. Your involvement and support is an important key to your student's success.
I also want to thank you for such a great turnout at our recent events such as the PTA Barbecue and the Fall Festival. Our PTA worked incredibly hard to provide both of these events. King has a long history of strong community and parent involvement, and we look to carry on this wonderful tradition. Another opportunity to support King will be on Nov. 12 at 5 pm for our monthly SAC (School Accountability Committee) Meeting followed by the monthly PTA Meeting at 6 pm. If you are interested in a behind the scenes look of a school then SAC is for you, and PTA is always looking for new ideas, perspectives and volunteers. We also look forward to seeing you at Muffins in the Morning on Nov.15 at 7:15 am.
At King, our goal is to create and sustain a student centered learning environment. You have read and heard about our Capturing Kids' Hearts work, which focuses on connecting with each student on a relational level. At this time of year we are also continuing to look at the academic needs of students. Teachers will review student data to ensure they are meeting the needs of all students. This may mean student groupings will change or teachers will re-teach certain concepts. Students will again take the Aligned District Benchmark Assessments in December to monitor their growth this school year.
Thank you again for a being an integral part of the King community. We look forward to working together with all of you to support kids!

Good Things:
Field day was a success. It was very organized. Kids and parents all looked to be having fun.
There was an affirmation for the teachers on how well they have kept the lines of communication open and parents informed about their children.
Principal’s Report:
Our students numbers are down once again. We are now at about 356 students including preschool.
Mrs. Joslyn presented DIBELS information. The numbers are not in our favor and are a little concerning. Mrs. Joslyn and the staff are trying to figure out strategies on how we can improve the students reading scores. Kindergarten is the biggest concern with more than half (52%) incoming students well below benchmark. Most other grade levels are between 20-30% .
DAC:
Dr. Greg Ecks, Tom Hunt and Sonia Urban gave a demonstration on the new Power BI early warning system and how it is being used to identify at risk students, attendance problems and disciplinary problems. There is a new charter school up for review. Lyman Kaiser talked about the struggle D11 has in trying to compete with surrounding districts. We are ranked 76 out of 124. Number one in the rankings is Cheyenne Mountain district 12.
Carol Nuss and Sara Henly discussed the SAC training. They attended the School performance session, the SAC 101 session and the Galileo k-12 session.
New Business: Lynn Guido was elected the new SAC chair. Carol Nuss will stay on as secretary.
Next Meeting – Monday, November 12, 2018 at 5:00 pm.
