Ideal vs. Real Gases
How gases should function verses how they do function
Ideal Gas Behavior
- particles are far apart
- attractions between particles don't count (the particles don't repel or attract each other)
- particles have barely negligible volume
- gases follow the gas laws
Real Gas Behavior
- Attractions and repulsions are negligible when the distance between molecules is large, but they do become larger as the molecules become closer together
- gases can deviate from ideal behavior under neath extreme conditions such as low temperature and high pressure
