Musky Awards - Staff Recognition at MLMS
We love recognizing our students for demonstrating Musky PRIDE and our staff for their dedication to living out our school vision at Muskego Lakes.
That being said, we know that many families also appreciate the work of our staff. So, we would like to launch Musky Awards. On each PD day ahead, we will take time to honor staff who are nominated by families, students, and/or colleagues for standing out when it comes to living out one or more of our Staff Guarantees. So, we would like to give you and/or your child the opportunity to nominate someone too!
So, in looking ahead to our September 25th Professional Development Day, please consider nominating a teacher, instructional aide, custodian, interventionist, general aide, instructional coach, SRO, building guest teacher, athletic coach, club lead, student teacher, intern, or member of the office staff, student services staff, library and technology staff, nurse aide team, and/or Taher team.
If you wish to recognize someone on staff who consistently lives out our Staff Guarantees, please fill out our nomination form. We are asking you to provide a specific example/anecdote from this school year that showcases the staff member living out one of our MLMS Staff Guarantees. We will then honor those staff members on our Professional Development Days throughout the school year.
Thanks for helping us honor our teachers for living out our MLMS Staff Guarantees! See the Google Form HERE if you wish to nominate someone to be recognized on Friday, September 25th. Thank you!!
(We will share with you the staff honored in upcoming newsletters too!)

Social Media
Recent media attention has been given to graphic videos circulating on social media, including incidents of self harm or suicide. While these videos are being removed, it is difficult to eliminate all circulated versions.
Having knowledge about this type of content can support conversations families may have with their children about suicide prevention and mental health concerns. When children are exposed to this type of content, families may want to discuss with their children any concerns and feelings that were generated. It is important to remind children who access social media sites to avoid videos from unknown users. It may also be helpful to provide children with phrases should their peers want them to watch graphic videos (e.x., "I don't want to talk about that video with you. That person really needed help.").
The following are some resources you may find helpful:

In-Person Updates
UPDATE: Student Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures
Navigating the Fork in Our Main Drive
As you enter the main drive of Muskego Lakes, there is a stretch between North Cape Road and the fork in our drive. At times, usually after school, this stretch can get backed up. Families using the 7th & 8th Grade Drop-off/Pick-Up must remain in line until the fork in the road. While it is tempting to pass cars using the lane for opposite traffic, it creates a dangerous situation. Both of our pick-up and drop-off lanes are very efficient and move well. You won't need to wait long. In addition, waiting until the fork will not hold you up because there is a good chance that once you reach the fork, you will drive a bit and then join the line still waiting to reach the 7th & 8th Grade Drop-off/Pick-Up. Your patience and cooperation is appreciated.
Cafeteria Updates
Students looking for more variety in the school lunch offerings are in luck! Next week marks the return of the Creation Station in our cafeteria. Here are next week's offerings:
- Monday: Breakfast
- Tuesday: Wings
- Wednesday: Nachos
- Thursday: Pasta
- Friday: Warrior Bowl
Outdoor Amphitheater Seating
Students have given us feedback that the plexiglass makes it difficult to hear their friends at lunch - especially when they are seated a few students away. Coming soon, we will be opening our outdoor amphitheater for students to eat lunch!
Weather permitting, the amphitheater will allow students to eat 6 feet apart and without plexiglass barriers. In addition, students will not be required to wear a mask after finishing their food due to being outside and physically distanced.
Once the amphitheater is marked for physical distancing, we will be able to accommodate roughly 80 students for outdoor lunch!
Face Coverings on Buses
Students have been doing a nice job of wearing face coverings when entering the bus. The majority of students have kept it on for the entire ride. This is not the case for everyone. Please remind your child that they need to wear their face covering properly for the entire ride to and from school. We have made a commitment to ensure that face coverings are worn on the bus. Thank you!
iReady Fall Testing
Math: Completed this week
Literacy: September 15th & 16th
The iReady Assessment is designed to get a clear picture of what students know and what they need to work on next. Talk with your child about doing their best and not stressing about wrong answers. In addition, it will be beneficial for students to get a good night's sleep and eat a good breakfast on test days.
