Optional Parent/Teacher Winter Conferences

Hello Washington Families,

There are only two evening dates on the calendar planned for parent-teacher conferences in February. As a result, teachers are limited to how many families they can meet with over the two evenings. As was the case last year, our winter conferences will be scheduled on a teacher or parent request basis as there are only two evenings scheduled for conferences. Parents should not feel as if these conferences are mandatory, especially as teachers will not be able to meet with all families on these two evenings.

If you do not believe a conference is needed at this time, there is no further action required. If you are requesting a conference at this time, please scroll down to sign up for a conferences slot.

Washington Capital Improvement Project

Throughout 2020 and 2021, Washington Elementary School’s referendum-funded building improvement projects will occur.

One of the larger projects is we will be receiving an upgrade to our HVAC System, adding air conditioning in all classrooms to improve temperature regulation and air quality, particularly when the temps warm-up. This work will occur once school ends and throughout the summer of 2020.

You may have noticed some changes to flooring in some areas of the school (Library and lower level corridor). Over winter break and during spring break, crews did some site prep for the flooring updates that will occur over the course of the next year. Wood floors will be refinished, carpeting will be updated and rooms will be painted to create a fresh classroom. New furniture will also be purchased to provide teachers and students more flexibility with how they utilize their learning spaces.

Additionally, there will be work done to create sequenced security in the existing school entrance - meaning once visitors are buzzed in, they’d be forced to stop at the front desk before having access to the rest of the school.

Accessibility improvements will be made, likely through the addition of a lift on the stairs near the front entrance. These improvements help extend the useful life of the building.

The work mentioned above will occur on weekends or evenings during the school year. Once school is out and summer break begins work will commence during the day. This schedule will have minimal, if any impact, to student learning during the construction work.

Washington Elementary will be closed, with no access through the summer months. Programming typically scheduled at Washington during the summer will be relocated or rescheduled, more information will be forthcoming.

In the meantime, if you have any questions about the above, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
